Watching

We shared a cold December morning watching the magical light of sunrise glowing on the first sheet of winter ice.  The mist was dancing across the lake as the coots circled their wagons in defense of the majestic eagle watching everything from his lofty perch and the coots and I watching and cheering at every missed attack.

    1. Thank you! I wonder if I will ever see a morning like that again. The combination of the sunrise in below zero temperatures and watching the eagle and coots battle right before me was absolutely amazing.

  3. that is so interesting how they banded together like that.. great photos.. I know that eagles have to eat but I hate when they go after ducks.

    1. Thank you! It was fascinating to watch how the coots gathered and swam in a continuous circle and I was extremely happy that he failed grab one. One became separated from the group and managed to survive several attacks by diving under the water before finally rejoining the group.

  5. Great set of images that tell a story. Those ducks had better watch themselves!

    1. Thank you! They gathered in their circle whenever the eagle was nearby and thankfully they all survived the morning.
