Had To Hit The Pause Button

While binge-watching The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel, IΒ had to hit the pause button when I glanced out the window and discovered these two Red-bellied woodpeckers hanging out. Β Thankfully these two polite guests, who never visit together, were kind enough to wait while I ran through the house, grabbed my camera and hurried out the door for a few photos.

    1. Thank you!πŸ™‚ They always arrive separately and, while it had been difficult to drag myself away from the show, I’m so glad I hit the pause button for them.πŸ™‚

  2. Very obliging of those woodpeckers. I haven’t watched “Mrs. Maisel” yet. Looks interesting, though, and since you were binge watching, you must have thought it was good.

  3. You’re lucky they were still there when you grabbed your camera. I often find my subjects flying away before I manage to get the perfect photo!

    1. I was very lucky that these two were so distracted with each other’s company while they raced up tree that they forgot to fly away when I arrived with my camera.πŸ™‚

  4. I took my camera outside with me yesterday for a little walk around our land. I was hoping to find some pretty winter birds to photograph. Nothing. Not a peep or an animal in sight. You could hear an drop it was so still! πŸ˜€

    1. I often have that happen when I visit a few of our local parks, especially the parks with the perfect bare trees that would be ideal for a bird photo.πŸ™‚

  7. Thank you for pausing – wonderful woodpecker shots! Mrs. PC tells me that Mrs. Maisel is quite marvellous, so it is on a list for future viewing.
    Enjoy your weekend!

    1. Thank you and in the blink of an eye the birds disappeared and the fantastic first season of Mrs. Maisel is over. There should be a rule that there has to be at least twelve episodes in a season. I hope your weekend is more enjoyable than the beginning of my first football game.πŸ™‚

  8. Looks like a B&B tree, lots of insect possibilities, plus soft rot for housing excavation. Perhaps they are a breeding pair?

    1. I think the one on the left is a female and it did feel like I was watching a courtship as they moved up the tree.πŸ™‚ If it works out, this would be a perfect tree for their new home.😁

  9. Superb shots! πŸ™‚ We love woodpeckers so much! It’s too bad, though, for our neighbor. She is a widow, and they are drilling holes into the side of her house!

    1. Thank you!πŸ™‚ We had a Downy woodpecker that on a couple of occasions thought our house was more interesting than the trees, but thankfully he finally returned to the trees.πŸ™‚

  10. Fantastic to capture this pair on the tree, as they search for some food. And how picturesque to have the tree decorated with snow, too. What a find. How lovely to have this beautiful scene right outside your window. Enjoyed these photos a lot, ACI.

    1. Thank you!πŸ™‚ After our bout of rain last week, the snow returned and so did the birds. I hear and see the woodpeckers often, but they are usually alone and love to dart behind a high branch before I can manage a photo. I always worry about my camera out in the snow and cold, but those are definitely the days that the birds like to visit the most.πŸ™‚

    1. I haven’t seen the pair again, but one of them is making quite a racket pounding on one particular branch.πŸ™‚
