Lake Ice After A Thaw

I think reality is thin, you know, thin as lake ice after a thaw, and we fill our lives with noise and light and motion to hide that thinness from ourselves.

  1. The cold emanated from those photos, just as the dark early morning here does.

  4. I loved this visit to the thawing lake and the thinness of reality, ACI. I’m sure Stephen King, a Maine resident, has seen his fair share of thawing lakes, and we know his thoughts on life slip in and out of reality all the time. Lovely post.

    1. Thank you!๐Ÿ™‚ As I was looking out across the ice yesterday morning I was struck by the complete silence. It was too early for the birds to be out singing and not one cracking or popping sound was heard on the lake after the recent thaw.๐Ÿ™‚

  6. Awesome shots! ๐Ÿ™‚ Unlike what Stephen King suggests, it is the other way around. Reality is thicker than thick, but we humans are so ingrained in traditional superficialities that, unfortunately, we see none of it.

    1. Thank you!๐Ÿ™‚ The noise and constant activity often provides an easy escape to never see it.

  7. You’ve really caught the icy beauty of thin lake ice in the early dawn – wonderful!
Stephen King writes so well about the thin veneers of reality. I enjoy most of what he writes (maybe not the books he wrote when he was altering his reality through heavy drinking, but sober King is often an enjoyable read!)

    1. Thank you!๐Ÿ™‚ I was up early hoping to find a good location for the supermoon this week, but instead of finding a location I was lucky enough to see a beautiful sunrise. It was tv and the movies that finally brought me to reading Stephen King. After watching Brendan Gleeson (another favorite) in Mr. Mercedes and Idris Elba in Dark Tower, I thought it was time to finally read a few of his books and so far Iโ€™ve enjoyed them.๐Ÿ™‚

  9. Appropriate quote. Love the texture of these photos. Hope the thaw continues. We’ve had no rain for nearly two days, but the temperature has dropped.

    1. Thank you!๐Ÿ™‚ Everything is covered with snow again after a surprise winter storm yesterday. Maybe Iโ€™ll be lucky and the forecast is also wrong about the clouds for the supermoon.๐Ÿ˜
