The Week In Seven Photos

The first signs of a transition toward spring began to appear this week.  The ice fishermen have left their shanties and were fishing out in the open, the winter store displays have been replaced with patio furniture, grills and Jimmy Buffett tiki bars and there were kites flying, some more successful than others.  Spring is in thirty-two days and the Oscars are in sixteen days and I have slowly transitioned into my yearly attempt of watching all the movies nominated for an Oscar in the Best Picture, Best Actress and Best Actor categories.  We watched Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri (Frances McDormand, Woody Harrelson, Sam Rockwell) and Roman J. Israel, Esq. (Denzel Washington) this week and have eight more movies to watch since all of the movies we saw at the theater last year failed to make the three categories, but Baby Driver, Star Wars: The Last Jedi, Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 and The Big Sick were nominated for Oscars in other categories.

  1. What a contrast between the picture of the Jimmy Buffet tiki bar and the picture that follows.

    1. I had to be dragged away from the tiki bar before I purchased one and with our winter scenery, it would definitely take a few drinks to achieve a “margaritaville state of mind.”😁

  2. Looks very much like Maine in February. We, too, have some catching up to do with Oscar-nominated movies. It will be a punishing schedule. 😉

    1. Things will be changing quickly when it’s 50 degrees next week. I changed movie categories last night and enjoyed watching Coco, which is nominated for the animated feature. The Darkest Hour is next on the list and it is going to be difficult to watch them all by the Oscars.🙂

      1. As I wrote…a punishing movie schedule. I really liked Coco a lot. Ditto for Darkest Hour, which, of course, is very different from Coco. We plan to see Ladybird, Dunkirk, and Get Out. We also want to slide in Black Panther, even though it’s too new to be on the Academy list and isn’t likely to be nominated for next year’s. But it’s gotten terrific reviews.

      2. If I would quit adding movies from other categories, there would be a chance that we see all the movies. Coco and Blade Runner 2049 jumped ahead of Darkest Hour, The Post and Dunkirk and I’m afraid Loving Vincent and War for the Planet of the Apes might bump another movie off the watching list.🙂

      3. It’s tough having to make such choice. 😉

      4. Do you go to the cinema? Watch them at home? Or a combination therefore?

      5. Throughout the year I always prefer seeing movies at the theater, but during the Oscars film festival we watch the majority at home.

  4. Beautiful winter shots! Spring isn’t even a rumour here…
Going to try – for the third time! – to catch Three Billboards this weekend. We’ve seen very few movies of late, so looking forward to it.
    Have a great weekend!

    1. Thank you!🙂 Frances McDormand and Denzel Washington were at the top of my list to watch and the movies were better than I expected. One of my best picture movie requirements is that I would actually watch the movie again and both of their movies fall into that category. Enjoy your weekend and I hope you have a chance to see the movie!🙂

    1. Thank you!🙂 I’m not sure I will make it through all the movies, but it’s fun trying every year. I enjoyed Coco.🙂

    1. Thank you and I had not thought of that until your comment.🙂 The light and sky were different that day and I had to keep adjusting the camera settings from what I had been using all winter.🙂

  8. Another interesting week up your way. And another chance to sit on a snowy picnic bench eating shop-bought scones 🙂

    1. I have to admit to having a bout of spring fever last week and being ready to enjoy sitting by the lake, without the ice and snow.😁

  9. I loved this, ACI, as I always love the week in review post. Today when I read your narrative, I thought, oh good, it’s finally warming up for them in Mich. and I imagined people flying kites on the grass. Then when I scrolled down and saw the kite being flown in snow, I saw it isn’t quite as springy as I’d imagined there. I found your photos interesting, to see so much activity or footprinted signs of it, even in the very cold. I liked all the photos, but I especially liked the picnic bench, the tall tree with the icescape, and the row of bare trees with the path. I, too, like to watch films before the Oscars, and I really liked Shape of Water a lot, also enjoyed Phantom Thread. Stay warm, my friend–

    1. I’m glad you enjoyed the photos and I was a little early with the spring countdown, but spring arrived this week with warm temperatures and pouring rain. I haven’t made it back to the park, but all the snow has disappeared at home. I haven’t seen those films yet, but the movies I’ve seen so far have been very good. Took a break last night from the Oscar movies and enjoyed watching Murder on the Orient Express (Kenneth Branagh has always been a favorite).🙂
