The first signs of a transition toward spring began to appear this week. The ice fishermen have left their shanties and were fishing out in the open, the winter store displays have been replaced with patio furniture, grills and Jimmy Buffett tiki bars and there were kites flying, some more successful than others. Spring is in thirty-two days and the Oscars are in sixteen days and I have slowly transitioned into my yearly attempt of watching all the movies nominated for an Oscar in the Best Picture, Best Actress and Best Actor categories. We watched Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri (Frances McDormand, Woody Harrelson, Sam Rockwell) and Roman J. Israel, Esq. (Denzel Washington) this week and have eight more movies to watch since all of the movies we saw at the theater last year failed to make the three categories, but Baby Driver, Star Wars: The Last Jedi, Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 and The Big Sick were nominated for Oscars in other categories.
