The Week In Seven Photos

Two more days until the Oscars and I still have a few movies to watch. ย Spring-like weather, a trip to the Detroit Zoo and deciding to see Game Night instead of an Oscar movieย has slowed my progress. ย So far, a few movies that have stood out are Darkest Hour (Best Picture, Best Actor – Gary Oldman),ย Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouriย (Best Picture, Best Actress – Frances McDormand),ย Loving Vincent (Animated Feature Film) andย Game Night (Comedy nomination for next year!!). ย If one of my teams loses early in the NCAA Big Ten Basketball tournament this weekend, there is a very slight chance I may finish my Oscar movies challenge by Sunday night. ย Enjoy your weekend and The Oscars!ย

How could I resist spending time with her instead of watchingย Phantom Thread.

I was standing by the lake enjoying the warm temperatures and another winter thaw instead of going to theater to see The Post.

It was so wonderful to see some color at the zoo after watching the amazing colors in one of my Oscar nominated favorites,ย Loving Vincent.

She made a nap look more enjoyable than going to see I, Tonya.

After leading the way this year with 13 Oscar nominations, I probably could lose hours looking into the clouds in this shape of water trying to understand the fascination with The Shape of Water.

I saw this Taveta golden weaver at the Detroit Zoo and wish I was one of the lucky ones who have seen theย yellow cardinalย in Alabama.

I think this adorable crew was trying to remind me that winter was not over when later in the week our spring-like temperatures were interrupted by a winter storm.

  2. I LOVED, loved loved this post! Thank you, and you made the right choice.
Perhaps we could discuss the fascination that people have for “The Shape of Water…”

    1. Thank you very much!๐Ÿ™‚ What movies and performances were your favorites? I always enjoy trying to watch the Oscar nominated movies and trying to remember important points from that film appreciation course taken years ago as to what Iโ€™m missing in the movies nominated when I do not care for one of them. The Shape of Water falls into that category this year. The combination of a fairy tale/Cold War/monster movie theme mixed with great musical moments missed with me. Iโ€™ve always enjoyed watching Richard Jenkins and Octavia Spencer and they were my highlights from the movie along with the music.๐Ÿ™‚

Yes, a great combination. And those movies will still be available after the Oscars. ๐Ÿ˜‰

    1. Thank you!๐Ÿ™‚ I have discovered over the years that if I havenโ€™t seen the movies at the theater or during my challenge, I will most likely not watch them after the Oscars (I need extra motivation for some of these movies๐Ÿ˜). An exception this year will probably be The Post because of Meryl Streep.๐Ÿ™‚

      1. I understand! I’m that way, too. The Post is definitely worth seeing, even after the Oscars. Can’t remember if you’ve already seen The Shape of Water, but that is another good one to put on your list, no matter what. ๐Ÿ˜‰ Ditto for Ladybird.

      2. My initial reaction to The Shape of Water and Ladybird early in the movies was not positive. Unlike The Shape of Water, my opinion of Ladybird improved throughout and it would be a movie I would watch again.๐Ÿ™‚

  4. Fun collection of photos and commentary! We’ve seen hardly any of the nominated movies – lack of time or not so great movies? Loved Three Billboards, enjoyed Get Out, would like to see The Post, and like you, can’t quite understand the reason for The Shape of Water. Maybe it’s a satire…
Have a great weekend, whether it’s sport or movies!

    1. Thank you!๐Ÿ™‚ I was surprised when Darkest Hour joined Three Billboards as my top two favorites. Frances McDormand and Gary Oldman were fantastic and the movies and their performances are worthy of best picture and best actors. We had a difference of opinion on the ending to Three Billboards, I thought it was perfect for the movie but my husband would have preferred a different ending. My teams are winning so far, so I think itโ€™s going to be a basketball weekend. Enjoy your weekend.๐Ÿ™‚

    1. One of my favorite stops at the zoo and they are so adorable.๐Ÿ˜ I love watching them walk and slide down the ice. They look like they are enjoying their new home and it was so cute to see how excited all the children were when they waddled up to the glass.๐Ÿ™‚

      1. Mystic Aquarium has a glass wall below water where you can see them swim past – they literally ‘fly’ through water – so neat to see!

  9. Sterling shots! ๐Ÿ™‚ We’ve been avoiding going to the movies as my wife — who only has half her lung capacity — is very afraid of catching the flu. The show 911, lately, has been better than any movie we have rented. ๐Ÿ™‚

    1. Thank you!๐Ÿ™‚ It has been a scary flu season and the latest report is that it has peaked but is still widespread in 45 states. I have seen the least amount of movies in my lifetime over the last year and there are many great tv shows right now, including 911, that are more entertaining than the movies. We finally went to the theater last week and my husband came down with a cold a few days later and Iโ€™m afraid I may be next.

  11. Interesting mix today of pop culture, natural habitats and simulated habitats. You did a splendid job of addressing it all in a colorful way, ACI. Sounds like a full weekend ahead, my friend — enjoy.
