Mixed Signals

After a few snowstorms last week, there were signs of hope on Friday when things began to melt

and by Saturday morning many of lakes were celebrating freedom from the ice.

This brief celebration came to a halt Sunday morning when the icy fingers of winter

made its return and wearing gloves, a hat and scarf would have been a good idea.

The red-winged blackbirds were happy to be back and singing a greeting to everyone,

the geese were wondering when they would ever feel grass on their feet again and

this sandhill crane was giving me a look of disbelief because I had failed to mention that not all of the lakes are ice-free.

It’s still a little too early to sit on a bench by the lake

or have to worry about being hit in the head with a baseball.

Thankfully March Madness begins this week with the 2018 Men’s NCAA Basketball Tournament and will keep me busy until the snow hopefully melts by Opening Day.

    1. It does look just like January and I have no idea what it means for April if March comes in like a lion and goes out like a lion.😁

    1. Thank you!πŸ™‚ I thought winter was finally over on Saturday when I was standing by the lake. I was so excited that I forgot to look at the weather forecast and had no idea it was going to be freezing Sunday morning. Of course, I was busy making sure Gabby was dressed appropriately and forgot my hat, gloves and scarf!)😁

  8. This was my favorite: or have to worry about being hit in the head with a baseball.

    1. Thank you and that was a relaxing thought after spending the previous day worrying every time I went out the front door that I would fall on the ice and have an icicle land on my head.😁

    1. Thank you very much!πŸ™‚ That was the first sighting of cranes this year and the first time I have seen them at that lake. We still have icicles and I loved the snow people and almost had to borrow one of their hats!😁

  12. Clever interpretation of everything. Loved the icicles. Brrrrrr, we keep hoping the weather will pick up and then the weather tells us otherwise.
