The Week In Seven Photos

Invitations have been sent out to the backyard visitors to stop by this weekend for a World Cup watch party.  The knockout stage begins Saturday and I have great expectations for more fantastic football after the exciting first round.  It will be another weekend of rising early to capture some photos and be back indoors before the record-setting hot weather arrives again and the games begin.

A few of the guests are still undecided about who they are cheering for, but my picks to reach the quarter finals are France, Portugal, Spain, Denmark, Brazil, Sweden, Belgium and England.

There will be plenty of snacks on hand, but I discovered after so many exciting first round games

that the snacks may disappear fast because of the nervous fans.

A calming area has been designated for heartbroken fans and

there will be an understanding for those fans that prefer to sulk in a quiet corner.

It’s always good to remember that there could be young ones in the area and to try to withhold from throwing jerseys or using some four letter words.

    1. Thank you!🙂 It could be quite vocal with a chance of jerseys being thrown on Saturday, so I’m hoping the fawn stops by for Sunday’s games.😁

  6. Excellent post! I hope you enjoy the weekend, especially the football – it is getting tense now – and I really, really hope you are right about England reaching the final. That would be some achievement, but Portugal is always a difficult opponent for England (as are many of your other picks!)

    1. Thank you and I’m ready for some exciting football!🙂 I love the knockout stage games and really hope I’m watching England and Portugal play again next weekend when the Tour de France begins. With all these great events, I haven’t even started my fall football countdown, but I’m still keeping track of Bryce Harper’s home runs and poor batting average. It’s probably too much to hope for more hat tricks by Ronaldo and Kane, but my little visitors would love to see one!😁

  7. Love the photo of the black squirrel. I was recently in Michigan and saw several of these little guys running around but just couldn’t catch any photos of them. Finicky little guys and they are much more skittish than brown squirrels. All the photos are really great though.

    1. Thank you!🙂 We currently have five black squirrels camped out at our bird feeder daily and they are so comfortable now that when the turkey visits every day they all snack together.🙂

      1. That’s awesome. We don’t have black squirrels in Central Illinois where we live, so when I saw some in Michigan last week I was really excited to try to get some good photos – no such luck. Being smaller than a brown squirrel, you have to get a little closer and they just weren’t having anything to do with that. I enjoyed the photo in this post very much.

  8. Haha, so your wildlife are getting involved with the football frenzy too. Because I’m still so behind catching up, some of these matches have come to pass now, and teams are out, but there was almost jersey throwing when England made it through on penalties, I can tell you. Sadly no fawns to share the euphoria with though.

    1. It’s been a fantastic World Cup and thankfully the fawns were not around for all the yelling during the England match. I really thought England was going to win in regulation and really thought they might lose in the overtime. When Kane made the first penalty kick I felt some hope and was thrilled and exhausted when they won!! Now that I’m such a Kane fan, I think I may become a football fan between World Cup tournaments!😁

      1. Well the English Premiership and Harry Kane will be starting up again around August if he is still playing his club football for Tottenham. Heaps of teams will be after him now, I reckon.
