The Week In Seven Photos

It was a week of hanging out with younger generations and marveling at their youthful enthusiasm and attitudes. Β There are so many differences between the generations and my nieces and I have made an arrangement that I do not make too many cracks about the Millennial Generation and they do not refer to those in Generation X asΒ old people.

My niece’s enthusiasm for blowing bubbles waned a little bit after the third location and slightly before my enthusiasm for trying to capture a flower and a great reflection in a bubble (never happened).

A wonderful day was spent walking around Ann Arbor with my niece before enjoying the Manchester United/Liverpool FC match at the University of Michigan stadium.

On that particular day, my niece knew there was no use trying to convince me to try a vegetarian restaurant while I was fixated on finding my favorite snacks.

I thought I’ve done a decent job spoiling my nieces over the years, but for some reason if there is a conversation about reincarnation, they always say they would rather come back as my dog.

I was thrilled to see the growing fawn who had not stopped by for over a week and I wonder how many miles she has traveled since she last visited. Β My niece and I walked for miles in Ann Arbor and at one point there was a thought of calling an Uber, but I reminded her that her grandparents walked ten miles through the snow to school and we could make it across one college campus in the heat and humidity.

While grocery shopping this week I noticed that the Halloween candy was on display. Β I think there is something wrong in the world that current generations see the summer displays dismantled by the end of July and replaced with Halloween displays. Β On the other hand, my niece was excited because it reminds her that she has three months to finally talk me into going through a corn maze. Β

  1. Lovely photos from an interesting week. I love the bubble photo πŸ™‚
Now I am intrigued as to what a Corn Maze is – so I guess you’ll just Have to go so you can tell me! πŸ˜€

    1. Thank you!πŸ™‚ Bubble photography has not been easy and I’m glad you enjoyed the photo. My niece recuperated from the photo shoot and she’s willing to try again this weekend, but only while we’re kayaking. That way she can put on her headphones and drown out all my suggestions.😁 During Halloween season, which does begin earlier each year, mazes are created in corn fields and are a big attraction along with haunted houses. My niece keeps telling me we will go to one designed for children and not one that is haunted. She should have never recommended watching the horror film, A Quiet Place, where monsters were hiding in the corn fields, because now I don’t even want to drive by a corn field.😁

  2. What a week! Loved that your niece wants to come back as a dog in your care! Gabby spoiled? Never…
We’ve spent time this week with friends and their two teenage boys – lovely guys, but keeping up with them is harder each time.
Have a great weekend, and maybe a bubble shot will happen out on kayaks?!

    1. My nieces adore Gabby and always let me know how well behaved, quiet and sweet she is when I’m not around.😁 My niece started kayaking with me last year and she’s more than willing to help with the bubble shots, but is convinced I’m going to be attacked by a swan and refuses to kayak near them. I have no doubt that I would not be able to keep up with the generation after the Millennials, my niece is often paddling away before I have even completed the kayak spider inspection.😁 Enjoy your weekend!😁

  3. Lovely pictures, as always! I am with you all the way about Halloween candy in July/August. As for corn mazes … the thought makes me shudder. Also, so nice to read about your relationship with your neice.

    1. Thank you very much!πŸ™‚ It’s not like me to ever complain about candy displays, but Halloween in August is too much. Some of the stores around here removed the summer displays right after July 4th. I enjoy hanging out with my nieces, but there is no way I’ll be hanging out at a corn maze.😁

  4. Another memorable week. I always thought I had a fairly chilled-out young attitude to life till I suddenly had grandkids. Now apparently 40-something is the new ‘old’. Totally with you on the early early Hallowe’en displays. I expect Xmas in shops by September :-/

    1. I went shopping over the weekend and so far there is still only Halloween items on display.πŸ™‚ Being curious, I’m always asking my nieces about the younger generation and when they go out I often would ask what the crowd was like. After discovering that an old crowd meant people my age, I quit asking that question.😁
