Weekend Watching

I think we have set a record this year with the least amount of movies we have seen at the theater and while I should have finally been at the movie theater watching the new Halloween movie, instead I was at home watching a horror movie marathon recommended by my niece who is an expert on the genre.

I’ve discovered or been reminded of several themes that may have taken a toll on me after the marathon. ย Why is it that cats maintain such a cool, spooky vibe in comparison

to the dogs that often do not fare well in these movies. ย It’s been years of Gabby running through the house at night barking without any thought to the real source, but I’m now beginning to wonder what is lurking in the dark shadows of our house.

It’s been an interesting mix of old school horror with A Nightmare on Elm Street and actually very good more recent movies such as The Conjuring, Oculus and The Amityville Horror. ย Although, my perception of Ryan Reynolds has changed a little after The Amityville Horror and it almost drove me to watching Charlie Brown and his friends.

I’ve also been watching birds preparing for their migration trips, but unfortunately I have not been watching our neighborhood turkey who has not visited for a few days.

Hopefully he has finally met up with some of his friends at the pond or found a girlfriend.

I almost forgot, one of the exciting encounters over the weekend was watching another man, Elvis, over my husband’s shoulder while we were out to dinner. ย Not to worry, he just thought I was watching some sporting event on the tv.

  1. You’re braver than me – I give all horror movies a miss, unless they are the really old classics like the original Dracula, Frankenstein and the Wolfman. ๐Ÿ™‚
And surely your husband can understand you Elvis watching? ๐Ÿ˜€

    1. After hanging out with the ghosts and skeletons all month, I hope Iโ€™m not getting addicted to horror movies now.๐Ÿ˜ They were better than I expected and Iโ€™ve been surprised by some of the actors in the films. I wanted to play a few of my favorite romantic songs by Elvis on my phone while we were dining out and Elvis was staring at me, but I knew that would be pushing my luck.๐Ÿ˜

  2. What an exciting weekend! You are a braver woman than I am. When it comes to horror movies, I am a wimp.

    1. My niece and I have had some fun conversations about the first batch of horror movies she recommended and Iโ€™ve had to laugh at the differences between the horror movies I watched growing up compared to the new movies.๐Ÿ™‚

      1. Ours were tamer. But there were exceptions. Couldn’t sit through “Last House on the Left.” Too brutal for me.

      2. Iโ€™ve never seen that one and Iโ€™ve been surprised by all the old horror movies on tv this week. I think one channel is showing the Halloween collection around the clock.

      3. It was a gross, sadistic movie. I do not recommend it. At all.

    1. Wise choice!๐Ÿ™‚ Iโ€™ve been teasing my niece that now I need to remove all the doors in my house to make sure nobody is hiding behind them and she told me she hasnโ€™t even recommended any of the really scary movies yet.๐Ÿ˜

  4. I asked Tweetie Pie, one of our two parrots, whether she believes in ghosts. She carefully looked around the room, from wall to wall, and then said, “I don’t know.” ๐Ÿ™‚

    1. Iโ€™ve enjoyed your Halloween posts and I hope youโ€™re not telling ghost stories to Tweetie Pie.๐Ÿ˜ Between her response, the full moon last week casting strange shadows throughout the house and yard as Gabby barked madly and those movies, I donโ€™t know either.๐Ÿ˜

  5. Your niece is a real fan of horror movies! I like a scary movie, but most modern efforts seem to be all gore and torture, with little brain… Decent exception was The Conjuring, still want to see A Quiet Place, and Iโ€™ll catch the latest Halloween, mostly because Jamie Lee Curtis is a good actor, and apparently John Carpenter approves this one.
โ€œItโ€ was pretty good (clowns are scary!), but nothing comes close to how scared I was the first time I saw The Exorcist – home alone, was running a fever and feeling pretty unwell, not a good time to watch it, I definitely had a few bad nights after!
Hope your neighbourhood turkey is ok.

    1. She has so many movies she wants me to watch that I think this horror movie marathon could last until this time next year.๐Ÿ˜ A Nightmare on Elm Street and The Amityville Horror were the two that I remember scaring me the most while I was young and I had no idea so many Elm Street movies have been made since then. Luckily for me, my niece has the complete collection. She told me sheโ€™s taking baby steps with me with her selections, but she had me watch The Conjuring first because she thought it was so good and that I might quit the marathon before I made it to the really good movies.๐Ÿ˜
