Weekend Watching

The snow covered roads arrived last Friday and I watched myself drive like a little old lady to the park on the first snowy day of the season.

Ever since I did a donut down our narrow, tree lined driveway a few winters ago, it always takes a few outings in the Jeep to adjust to winter driving.

There are more bare trees mixed in with the remaining color and

in some areas the landscape contained the cold gray bleakness of a late January day.

I watched as Gabby stared at me in disbelief that she was out in the snow without boots and a coat as little snowballs gathered along her legs.

We watched the birds gather around the bird feeders and

the brightly lit distant shore from a week ago disappear as the snowflakes floated to the ground.

Poor little Gabby – she is so close to the cold ground! πŸ™‚
I particularly love the middle photo with the red, orange and bare trees. πŸ™‚

    1. Thank you!πŸ™‚ I loved our first snowy day, except when I was driving, and we have more snow in the forecast this week. Most of the wonderful fall color has now disappeared, but I think we may actually have sunshine one day this week. Gabby still loves the snow and it’s amazing how fast the little snowballs cover her little legs.😁

      1. My sister sent me a photo last year of her Border Collie, with snow balls hanging off her coat! It is amazing! πŸ™‚
But poor little Gabby is so tiny – she is in danger of becoming one large snow ball! πŸ˜€

    1. Thank you!πŸ™‚ I loved the first day of winter photography, even if it was much sooner than I expected. Gabby loves the snow, but on the colder mornings she races back to the house as fast as she can.😁

  3. Same here. Looked beautiful but was just enough to really mess up our late fall cleanup. Still have a ton of leaves in the yard and now have snow. It’s a trade off I guess – now we’re all in the mood for the holidays. Great share πŸ‘πŸΌ

    1. Thank you!πŸ™‚ I love the first snowfall of the season and I was thrilled to have snow on the lawn instead of leaves. Unfortunately, the wind arrived right after the snow and the next morning there were oak leaves covering everything. It’s time for the holidays and we need enough snow now to keep the leaves covered until spring.😁

    1. Thank you!πŸ™‚ I think I was too excited with our first day of snow to notice the cold that day, but it was freezing the next morning.😁

  5. I found this poignant, ACI, having just looked at your splashy, warm autumn photos so recently. You capture the beauty in every season.

    1. Thank you!πŸ™‚ It was fun trying to capture the mingling of autumn and winter, but I think all the splashy colors have finally disappeared.πŸ™‚

  6. Wonderful early winter shots, especially the one with the red and orange trees highlighted against the snow. And Gabby’s disbelief, of course!

    1. Thank you!πŸ™‚ Gabby’s disbelief turned to outrage the next morning when I had her outside again without a coat or boots in the snow and freezing cold filling the bird feeders (she thinks they get too much attention) . She barked at me for over an hour after we went indoors.😁

  7. Brave of you to go out, I’m a wimp at driving in snow. Gabby doesn’t look too thrilled, either. πŸ˜‰
These shots are wonderful. I love the one with the red and orange trees, it’s perfect!

    1. Thank you!πŸ™‚ The last few winters it has felt like I finally get comfortable driving in the snow when spring arrives.😁 We have more snow on the way, but I don’t think I’ll be able to find any red or orange trees this week. I wasn’t really prepared for an early winter, but Gabby and I will both be dressed for winter the next time we go out.😁

    1. Thank you!πŸ™‚ Our autumn/winter continued today with more snow, but less color. I definitely need to put a colorful coat on Gabby now to make up for the lack of color in the trees.😁

  10. Wow oh wow! Love them all but especially the still bright trees, and Gabby and the leaves. Hope we don’t see snow here though till at least Christmas.
