The Week In Seven Photos

It’s finally March and almost time to begin thinking about actually being outdoors looking at flowers, butΒ winter is just enjoying our company so much that I have a feeling it will be hanging around through the first blooms.

There was time this week for a few walks by the river in between starting a new book, The Silent Patient, watching a favorite new series, Whiskey Cavalier, and celebrating that I have a new favorite baseball team, the Philadelphia Phillies, after my favorite player, Bryce Harper, joined the team with the largest overall contract in North American sports history.

Watching dogs stroll by the river with their owners, I have been wondering if or when I will decide to look for another dog. Β While I’m wondering about this, I’ve also thought about going to the park with a hamburger in my pocket and maybe by some lucky chance a stray dog will follow me home. Β Unfortunately, at this point my pockets must smell like peanuts from feeding all of our backyard visitors

because there was only a squirrel at the park that either wanted to mug me for the peanuts or was begging to come home with me. Β Somehow Gabby’s strong spirit remains with me and has let me know she is not happy about strange squirrels approaching me in the park or the thought of a dog or the turkeys roaming around her yard.

The birds would prefer I would continue to spend any extra money on birdseed instead of bowls better suited to stray dogs

and the squirrels have no idea why another dog that would constantly chase them is needed when they are more than willing to entertain everyone trying to obtain the perfect face full of snow.

It will be another weekend out in the snow with the wildlife and maybe stopping for a double cheeseburger on the way to the park.

  2. Fantastic shots, especially of the cardinals. I can sympathize with having mixed feelings about getting another dog. Oh, those dog buddies!

  4. I smiled at the spirit of Gabby being with you on your walks.
Wonderful collection, and those squirrels know how to entertain. I hope signs of spring start to emerge, but if not, it sounds like you have books and TV viewing set up for a weekend indoors!

    1. Thank you!πŸ™‚ I had to laugh at the park because there were so many times that Gabby loved to bark and keep any animals at a distance and you would have thought a bear was chasing me as fast as I backed up when the squirrel quickly approached and followed me. Lucky I wasn’t closer to the river or I might have fallen in.😁

  6. Read what you wrote about Gabby and went to your initial blog about her passing away. I posted a reply to you (today) in that initial blog. I was unaware of her passing due to being away from blogging with my wife’s surgery/illness. We sure miss our Gab and (all too well) know what it is like.

    1. Thank you. I so miss my little best friend wandering through the days with me, but luckily since she convinced me over the years that she needed to go everywhere with me, I am surrounded by thousands of wonderful memories wherever I go. I don’t know when I’ll be ready to look for another dog, but there is a piece of me that would not mind a stray following me home until then.

  7. It is hard being without a canine companion after so many years with one. The most I’ve lasted is a couple of months. The shelters are full of worthy companions waiting for your visit. πŸ™‚
I esp. love your snowy squirrel photo!

    1. Thank you!πŸ™‚ Our zoo has a Meet Your Best Friend event every year in May and I hope I’m ready, unless a stray follows me home before then.πŸ™‚
