The Week In Seven Photos

Well, we begin Harper’s fourth month and the first day of summer not only wondering if puppy lessons are needed,ย but also if after this week that puppy therapy sessions may also be a necessity. ย Harper is still adjusting daily to every new item and situation she encounters, including strange new creatures surprising her around every corner of the house.

ย I made the mistake early in the week of walking Harper down the driveway to retrieve the garbage can and, after she was convinced it was chasing her up the driveway on our return, she now believes a green monster lives in our garage. ย Of course, I managed to increase her anxiety each day by scaring her with the spooky vacuum that lurks in the closet and spending time in the kitchen to actually cook, instead of just stopping by for coffee or treats, where she was convinced that the house was on fire. ย I thought a trip to the outdoor mall that welcomes dogs or a Dog’s Night Out might relax and cheer her up, but overall I think we only managed to guarantee that we would be seeing a therapist twice a week.

I was hoping some of my favorite things would have a soothing and relaxing effect on Harper, but it appears I was the only one enjoying the trip to the wonderful Three Dog Bakery,

a favorite Starbucks beverage

and the beautiful hats on display at Nordstrom. ย Although, she was much happier in the air conditioning

and grudgingly agreed to wander through the Lululemon Pop Up store.

She did appear to be relaxing at times, but pure panic set in when she found out we were going into my favorite cooking store in the fear that I would be attempting to cook sometime soon. ย Thankfully, cruising in the Jeep absolutely helps her relax and after the drive home she enjoyed her Starbarks puppermint mocha and peanut mutters cookies.

  1. Gosh 4 months already! How tome flies! ๐Ÿ™‚
Poor little Harper – the world can seem a scary place. Hopefully she will get used to it all eventually. ๐Ÿ™‚

    1. The days are flying by and thankfully (for both of us) Harper is getting plenty of rest between all of the excitement!๐Ÿ˜ She had a peaceful day yesterday until last night when I dropped a hardcover book and she let me know she was not happy about that noise. She looked at me like how could you upset me again.๐Ÿ˜

      1. Oh dear! ๐Ÿ˜€
One good thing about LM was that she never worried about loud noises, probably because she started her life in a house full of students! ๐Ÿ˜€

  2. A barker? Our Liam, a Sheltie, was a barker extraordinaire.

    1. I just canโ€™t believe she already thinks Iโ€™m the problem!๐Ÿ˜ Sheโ€™s an angel for grandma and with the squirrels that race by right in front of her and with the deer that she has staring contests with when they are twenty feet away, but one false move out of me and her whole afternoon is ruined.๐Ÿ˜

  4. Thanks for this, smiled all the way through! Harper is a character, trying out all these new activities – Iโ€™m sure sheโ€™ll adjust soon enough, with motivational drinks and snacks keeping her on track…
    Have a wonderful weekend!

    1. Thank you!๐Ÿ˜ Itโ€™s hard to believe how much sheโ€™s enjoying her Starbarks and cookies after such an attitude at the bakery. As long as she can keep enjoying the Jeep, a little shopping, dining out and festivals, Iโ€™m absolutely fine with giving up the cooking and chores that upset her at home!๐Ÿ˜ Enjoy your weekend!๐Ÿ™‚

  7. Good luck with her! ๐Ÿ™‚ I have a Belgian shepherd dog who was terrified of garbage cans when she was a puppy. Refused to walk near them. She’s now decided that they are harmless.

    1. Thank you!๐Ÿ™‚ Itโ€™s amazing to watch how cautious they are approaching anything new they encounter and Iโ€™m sure in a few months sheโ€™ll let the garbage can know whoโ€™s the boss.๐Ÿ˜
