The Week In Seven Photos

Harper and I were out celebrating with the butterflies and ducks the arrival of August and the first football game of the season during a rare beautiful summer day this year. Β The Hall of Fame game always lets me know that we are one month away from my favorite month and, of course, football and oh so wonderful autumn.

My celebration was a little more joyous than Harper’s as she has been in a fearful phase lately. Β The path ahead in new situations has been a scary place for Harper

as she wonders why it’s necessary to be out exploring on foot instead of in the safe confines of her stroller

or at least traveling with a gang.

While I believe Gabby was born bossy with a determination to be in charge of every situation, so far Harper has shown no signs of bravely marching out into the world even as I’ve tried to reassure her that we’re safe as we confront new obstacles and challenges.

After attempting a very brave walk, Harper was thrilled to relax in her stroller while we watched the butterflies fluttering along the river enjoying the flowers.

I was very proud of Harper as she cautiously appreciated the beauty we encountered while out walking and she completely regained her confidence when we pulled into grandma’s driveway and she could happily and confidently bound down the steps with her tail wagging to tell her friend and grandma about her big day at the park.

    1. Thank you!πŸ™‚ She’s making progress and the vet said this is common at her age. You never have to question her comfort level in new situations and I’m always happy when she finally relaxes and that tail starts wagging like at grandma’s house.πŸ™‚

  3. Beautiful photos and close ups of butterflies! πŸ™‚
Aw Give little Harper time. Maybe she just needs to go slowly, sniff a few things, have a few treats as reward, and hop back in her stroller. I think that she will gain courage as she gets older and more curious. πŸ™‚

    1. Thank you and we’re definitely going slowly as she explores her new world!😁 Each day is a new discovery as I’ve been surprised that she was absolutely comfortable kayaking, but not always thrilled about exploring new things on foot. It’s been amazing to watch her as we wander around the yard and she never notices any of the backyard visitors (she still only barks at me), but my niece just brought her new puppy over to grandma’s house this week and Harper just shook, which was a surprise since she has liked the other dogs. I guess she thought there should only be one rambunctious puppy in the house. We’re off to the park this morning for more exploring. Enjoy your weekend!πŸ™‚

  4. Different dogs, different personalities. Even within the same breed. It was certainly that way for our two Shelties. On a different subject…you outdid yourself with your photos, especially the top one. Fantastic! And I never knew that monarchs had spotted bodies.

  6. Lots of colour and character here! Harper is very photogenic and I’m sure she’ll get increasingly confident as she grows. Wonderful to read she’s a kayaker!
    Have a great weekend!

    1. Thank you!πŸ™‚ Harper is already a wonderful little companion and we’re slowly learning her comfort zones and calming techniques. Very relaxed in the kayak or standing fifteen feet away from a deer, but pure panic mode around my niece’s new puppy or loud noises. Let’s hope she loves watching football!🏈⚽️😁 Enjoy your weekend!πŸ™‚

    1. Thank you!πŸ™‚ While she is slowly adjusting to the outdoors, the Premier League and preseason football games begin this week and she better adjust quickly to being a sports fan.⚽️🏈😁
