Monday Musings

I saw an article the other day on how the quarantine has strengthened the marriage of Kevin Costner and while watching the new season of Yellowstone, there may have been a brief thought about being trapped in a house with Kevin Costner for five months, but then that was quickly replaced by the question of what little minor things did they actually bicker about.

In our household there has been a disagreement about who should be drinking the Faygoย grape or red pop. ย If you’ve never had the opportunity to enjoy the pop that was founded in Detroit, Michigan in 1907, trust me you would bicker about the last Faygo grape in the refrigerator (the original grape flavor was based on a cake frosting recipe).

Another great favorite Michigan tradition is Guernsey Farms Dairy, which has been around since 1940, and surprisingly I can be reasonable about my favorite ice cream brand and there has never been an argument about who gets the last scoop of ice cream. ย Reasonable goes out the window though regarding their fabulous chocolate milk in the fridge and everyone knows it’s off limits.

I thought all this time I’ve been spending on the lake would have improved some of my relationships, but I think my favorite mean swan actually gave me the avian version of flipping me off last week.ย

  1. I have wondered how some families have been coping in Lockdown together . . .
Your foods sound so yummy! ๐Ÿ˜€

    1. I was out kayaking today and I think his son flipped me off!๐Ÿ˜ The 4-berry pie and ice cream were delicious and based on our news lately we could be quarantined for years, so Iโ€™m planning on buying a mini fridge with a lock for my grape Faygo.๐Ÿ˜

      1. Oh dear – those swans! ๐Ÿ˜€
And that’s a great idea about the mini fridge! But I really hope it doesn’t come to that!

  2. Too funny! That swan really does look as though he’s flipping you. In our house, not many arguments about food. Not because we are so saintly but rather because he likes salty and I like sweet. I don’t raid his chips. He doesn’t raid my chocolate. Pretty good arrangement, don’t you think? ๐Ÿ˜‰

    1. Thank you!๐Ÿ˜ Sounds like the perfect arrangement, but Iโ€™m beginning to think I need a mini fridge with a lock for my chocolate milk, grape Faygo and Nestle chocolate chip edible cookie dough!๐Ÿ˜

  3. Never heard of Faygo this side of the pond, but I think I would bicker over the last scoop of ice cream for sure.

    1. I have several favorite Faygo flavors and there is about to be a little bickering over the last piece of 4-berry pie with vanilla ice cream.๐Ÿ˜

  4. I’ve heard that from some other couples, too. Nothing like the threat of loss to strengthen your bond. ๐Ÿ˜‰
I hope when the cygnets get older, Mr. Grumpy will be more lax. ๐Ÿ™‚

    1. This swan has had this reputation for years, but it has never stopped me from seeing if we could improve our relationship.๐Ÿ˜ Without my sports news, I have extra time to read celebrity magazines and I just read that Leonardo DiCaprio is very happy too!๐Ÿ˜

  5. I think you should give that swan the silent treatment…
Good ice cream and favourite drinks? Start stockpiling (but admit nothing) โ€˜cos never mind the second wave, the first isnโ€™t over yet – eek! Mrs PC likes beer as well as wine, but I donโ€™t enjoy wine, so for the most part, all is good and no matching-but-very-much hisโ€™nโ€™hers mini fridges necessary. Yet.

    1. Good idea, Iโ€™ve always believed the silent treatment is essential in any relationship (except, of course, with Harper)!!๐Ÿ˜ When the shutdown began I talked about possibly being able to return to some form of normal in September, then it was Christmas, then it was early 2021, then it was 2022…Love the idea of matching mini fridges, one for my Faygo and Haagen-Dazs ice cream bars and another for the chocolate milk and edible cookie dough!๐Ÿ˜

  7. I was so fast to hit “enter” and submit my previous comment… but I need to add, the photo of the kayak front is fabulous, I only now realize how narrow it is, was it easy for you to learn to kayak? is it easy to keep balance (and shoot)? ๐Ÿ™‚

    1. Thank you!๐Ÿ™‚ It was easy to learn how to kayak and after dropping my phone in the lake while taking a photo, I have learned to slowly make sure my paddle is secured and my camera straps are around my neck before I take any photos. I only kayak on very calm days in the type of kayak that doesnโ€™t easily tip over (itโ€™s not as narrow as it appears in the photo), so I usually do not have to worry about balance issues if I donโ€™t kayak on windy days.๐Ÿ™‚
