Flowers And Movies

I’ve watched an interesting variety of movies over the last week (you can watch the trailers if you click on the movie title) and I’m surprised that the ones I would recommend were the horror and French films.  I loved watching the mother and daughter roles played out wonderfully by Catherine Deneuve and Juliette Binoche in The Truth and while I was not a fan of The Shining back in the day, I enjoyed the sequel, Doctor Sleep, and how they incorporated elements of The Shining.   I did not go the theater last year to see Doctor Sleep due to its length of 2 hours, 32 minutes, but it was a great one to watch at home.  All of the movies this week were chosen because they included favorite actors, but in the movie Frankie, that I watched because of Brendan Gleeson, I enjoyed the beautiful filming location in Portugal more than the movie and the same thing happened with Last Weekend starring Patricia Clarkson when I fell in love with the Lake Tahoe home and not the movie.  It’s rare to hear about a romantic comedy anymore, especially with the added bonus of Martin Freeman in the leading role, and while Ode To Joy may not make my long list of favorite romantic comedy movies it is one I would enjoy watching again.

  1. Thanks for the movie list. I will be checking some of them out. As the mother of two adult daughters, I am especially interested in “The Truth.”

    1. The summer movie festival continues and I always love when they include mother/daughter and romantic comedy movies and have been very surprised over the last year at the great horror films being made.🙂

  2. I’ll always find time for Brendan! You’ve got a great summer film festival going on, plenty of variety. I’m looking forward to Dr. Sleep. The book was entertaining, and I’m curious to see how it went as a movie. I didn’t enjoy The Shining on my first viewing, but did the second time. Maybe a double bill over the weekend?!

    1. I don’t know if you’ve had a chance to watch Stephen King’s tv series Mr.Mercedes starring Brendan Gleeson, both the show and Gleeson were great. Doctor Sleep was so surprisingly good (have always loved Ewan McGregor) that I’m even thinking about rewatching The Shining.🙂

      1. It’s a show I’ll have to catch up on – I really enjoyed the “Bill Hodges” trilogy – and I think most people agree that Brendan’s a good man, so he is. I cling to the notion I’m related…

      2. I’ve never read the books, but I’m on such a movie and book binge that now that I can picture Uncle Brendan as Bill Hodges, I should be able to have the trilogy done by next week.📖😁

    1. I hope you enjoy the movie and I need to read a few of the books that I’ve seen adapted to movies and tv shows.🙂
