The Week In Seven Photos

It was suppose to be a peaceful morning on the nature trails, but

instead of those wonderful winter mornings of solitude just hanging out with the birds

along the trails

we were reminded that it’s that awful time in Michigan where everyone decides in March it’s time to leave their homes after a long winter hibernation.

The sandhill cranes were even squawking in protest at all the paparazzi and there was not a parking space available by the time we left the park. The pandemic shutdowns began two years ago this week and after a few years of viewing more than two people together on the trail as a crowd it was an absolute shock to see very large photography groups vying for the birds attention.

Just to be fair, I was very happy to share the trails with a coyote or a favorite that returns every March, but

I’m still not sure if we were shuddering from the cold, the new Dunkin’ Shamrock Macchiato or the crowds of people.

  1. Can’t blame people for wanting to get out, but I understand how disconcerting it is to be around large groups of people. Even though most people (and our government) seem to think the pandemic is over, I’m not ready to be out and about the way I used to. I sure do hope the pandemic is over, but before I get rid of my mask, I want to see what the numbers are. And, great pictures as always.

    1. Thank you!🙂 I’m with you, my new normal still remains to keep a happy distance while wearing a mask and let’s see what happens during this next phase of change. During last year’s rush to normal we knew a lot of vaccinated people sick with COVID and while it kept them out of the hospital, many were quite sick for a couple weeks. One good thing after two years is that I no longer go squawking off in the other direction like the cranes when I encounter a crowd.🙂

      1. We took a road trip to Michigan last weekend and I saw a great blue heron flying overhead. First one and only one for this year so far. 😊

  4. Excellent photos! I feel for you… human crowds, their noise and frenetic energy disturbs the peace… alas.

    1. Thank you!🙂 All it took was one crowded Saturday morning in March at the park for my niece to understand why I love my quiet cold winter mornings at the park. I think after one more Saturday she’ll be ready to freeze with me and the birds next winter.🙂

  5. The Shamrock drink has a lovely colour… but I wouldn’t drink one! I’m with you on wanting a slow and steady transition to an allegedly post-pandemic spring and summer – why race to get there if a steady approach is safer? I’ll carry on being anti-social, I mean, an introvert, much as I did before!
Looking forward to Everton being one step closer to relegation, and at least I’ll enjoy the rugby between Ireland and England – if the game is a good one, happy with a win for either.
Enjoy your weekend and the steady thaw!

    1. Thank you!🙂 Cheers to a slow and steady anti-social transition!! Although, it’s obvious by the Shamrock drink that I’m in the midst of a beverage crisis and have no idea what I’ll be drinking next. I’m struggling with all my old favorites (can’t even drink my Diet Mtn Dew) and the next thing you know I could be ordering some Irish Cream Stout craft beer for St. Patrick’s Day. I’ve influenced poor little Harper’s attitude and as soon as another dog walker approaches she stops and turns her head. I don’t like the relegation rule so Everton must get their act together and we won’t even talk about Ronaldo’s hat trick today. Enjoy the Ireland/England win!🙂
