As summer moves toward its hottest days (dreaming of cool Fall days and football) and passes by in a blink of an eye, it feels like a good time to slow down and enjoy some of the simple things of summer and try to avoid the summer heat and crowds. Thankfully,
Gabby and I enjoy
early morning bike rides and kayaking and can spend the hottest part of the day hiding in the shade with me reading the recent bestseller from my
favorite author and Gabby trying to distract me from my book by chasing squirrels, birds and trying to find her latest friend
who has currently taken up residence under our deck. Thankfully, Gabby has not had an encounter with any of the animals living under the deck, but we also have two fawns visiting quite often that have not learned how to jump fences and on two occasions the fawns came running directly at us and Gabby thought she was about to have the best playdate of her life.
On one occasion, Gabby tried to jump out of her bike seat to play with her new friends, but, luckily, she was strapped to the seat, I managed not to crash the bike and the fawns came to their senses and ran the other way. Later in the evening my husband and I were lucky to have the simple pleasure of watching the mother and two fawns enjoy the outdoors until the fawns let the mother know they were bored and wanted attention at about the same time that Gabby let us know she was bored and wanted attention.
Other summer enjoyments can be discovered in the simple beauty of a flower, spending time with the special people in my life, enjoying nature, laughing at Gabby while enjoying a
handcrafted hard cider by Blake’s Hard Cider Co. in Armada, Michigan, going to a summer blockbuster children’s movie (Inside Out) and laughing harder than the kids while trying to hide a couple sniffles, and praying for a week of cool weather when the classic cars roll into town for the 2015 Woodward Dream Cruise.
