When I was young, it seemed that life was so wonderful,
A miracle, oh it was beautiful, magical.
And all the birds in the trees, well they’d be singing so happily,
Joyfully, playfully watching me.

I have taken so many bad shots of birds obscured by branches that it was great to have one pose in the open with a wonderful background. I love the song and also would have liked to include the lyrics “there are times when all the world’s asleep, the questions run too deep,” but the photos I took of the last full moon were not good since I still refuse to use the tripod.

I shoot from a boat when I take shots of the moon. You don’t need a tripod. The only time I use a tripod is during salmon spawning season when I’m staying in one spot waiting for some bear/salmon action. If your hanging around in one spot, yes a tripod is best but other than that, one doesn’t need a tripod.Just increase your shutter speed for hand holding.Try around 1/1000th of a second.I shoot around 1/1250th of a second. My lens also has “IS”.Instrument Stabilization.I assume yours does as well?
Most often in the kayak and when taking shots of the moon, I am using an old Tamron 200-500mm lens without image stabilization. I’ve tried a few different things while trying to capture a good shot of the moon, but I still need to find a better location. I think the new Tamron 150-600mm lens with image stabilization would help and, while I’m dreaming of things, it would also be nice to have an eagle flying by.

Thank you and lately it seems there are quite a few songs from the 70’s stuck in my head.

Thank you! I always love how beautiful the trees look in May and wish the flowers lasted a little longer.๐
