iPhone Journey – Day 7

It was a day of adjustments with the iPhone as I’ve always been a stickler about staying on trails and sidewalks as much as possible (wouldn’t be pretty if we had a tick experience), but without a good zoom lens Harper and I had to walk through the wet grass to capture a great blue heron. My Skechers were soaked and Harper was not happy about her funky toes and hanging out with the ducks. It’s a fine line with the iPhone trying to capture something in the distance and still maintaining a decent level of sharpness. I was unable to capture a decent shot of the twenty young turkeys with four adult females roaming around the yard and, trust me, I almost ran for the Nikon when I spotted a fox just hanging out with them. Not crazy about sticking my hand so close to the bees either, but loved the hopscotch.

    My phone is a Pixel 6 Pro. The optical zoom kicks in when it wants to–otherwise it just crops the 1x image (digital zoom). That said, I’ve achieved moderately good results shooting deer from across the street, things like that, but birds…. not so much. I transfer the photos via the cloud (OneDrive) to my desktop and edit there. I don’t know if any of this helps–just hoping something I’ve said might do so. I guess if it were me, I’d try *not* running across the wet grass and see what the camera and subsequent editing can do…but I’ll bet you already have.

      Thank you!🙂 It’s an adjustment not using my favorite Nikon zoom lens that I loved, but I’m committed to trying to find new ways to capture what I love with the iPhone and take the simple option of editing on the phone. We’ll see how it goes.🙂

    It seems that you should carry the Nikon as a backup so that you can get those distant shots more easily. I find that the zoom capability of the iPhone is very limited, and the further out you try to go, the image quality really suffers. Happy Monday!

      Thank you!🙂 I’ve had too many issues with my neck and back carrying a camera and plan on only using the iPhone until next year.🙂

        Oh, wow man, your back is worse than mine, sorry about that. ☹️ I have to baby my three herniated lower lumbar. At least your camera will always be with you now which is nice. I think of my iPhone as my backup camera.
