Monday Mystery

Monday Mystery: How can choosing eight tracks for a desert island feel as stressful as the thought of being a castaway?!

Podcast of the Day: Desert Island Discs (guest David Nicholls, a favorite author) – Eight tracks, a book and a luxury: what would you take to a desert island? Guests share the soundtracks of their lives.

After choosing my eight, there was no way I could possibly think straight in order to choose a book.

  1. If I Can Dream – Elvis Presley
  2. Nessun Dorma – Pavarotti
  3. Old Time Rock And Roll – Bob Seger & The Silver Bullet Band
  4. I Still Haven’t Found What I’m Looking For – U2
  5. Someone Like You – Van Morrison
  6. Thunderstruck – AC/DC
  7. Badlands – Bruce Springsteen
  8. Tin Cup Chalice – Jimmy Buffett

  1. Fun! And I can see why it’s so stressful. How to narrow it down to eight tracks, a book, and a luxury? My oh my. I don’t think I can.

  2. Desert Island Discs is a brilliant show, part of my childhood growing up when my mother almost always had BBC radio 4 playing.
The list of music choice for me always changes, but the book might be A Fool’s Alphabet by Sebastian Faulks, one I’ve read more than any other.

    1. One of my favorite podcasts and I’m very happy to say that after one day I’m completely happy with my list and not stressing over any changes. I was actually blasting them in the car today and wishing I was a castaway somewhere until Election 24!!πŸ™‚

    1. It’s a wonderful podcast and it’s amazing how quickly songs or lyrics can take you back to a memory or place in your life and how some songs remain as powerful throughout your life as that first time you heard your all time favorite.πŸ™‚

    1. I absolutely loved reading about your selections!! The Barbra Streisand/Bryan Adams song was on my first list of about 25 songs and I love Ewan McGregor and am very jealous of the Charley hug!! I wanted to offer some background on my choices, but was too worn out from the selection process.😁

      1. Perhaps at a later date you could share your reasoning for your choices. Always lovely to find out we have more in common.

  4. Oh my goodness! what a task. I don’t think I could. I would just dither and dither and end up just grabbing whatever πŸ˜…πŸ˜†

    1. I try to add new music favorites as often as possible so I was worried how I would limit it to eight, but these have been favorites for decades.πŸ™‚

  5. Hmmmm. I’ve not tried this. Picking ten *albums* seemed problematic. Maybe I’ll give it a go. Your list has the advantage of giving you a eight different styles (somewhat). You could listen to one per day just to set the mood, ration them like fine wine or something.

    1. I did think of wine as my luxury choice for the desert island. I started working on my β€œten albums” after reading this and instantly had my first five, but the next five will take some thought. I wondered how soon I would want to change my songs, but so far no thought of changing anything.πŸ™‚
