CIMPLE – A Curious Introvert's Musings & Photos about Life and Enjoyment

I was flipping between my two favorite Saturday morning college football programs and had to stop on one channel for a bit while a musician was singing “Take Me Home, Country Roads” for the West Virginia fans prior to their game against Penn State. I immediately thought how much I’ve always enjoyed the John Denver song and who in the world is singing this cover version. I try to stay up to date on the music scene and always feel old when I don’t recognize younger musicians. Well, after a little research I found the song on Apple Music performed by MGK and was so excited to know I’m not too old because after a little more searching I discovered MGK was previously known as Machine Gun Kelly and I know that name even if I might not know his music. This is a long introduction to a Trivial Tuesday topic, but I found myself in the car listening to “Take Me Home, Country Roads” by John Denver, the Lana Del Rey cover version and the “reimagined and reworked” version “Lonely Road” by MGK and Jelly Roll (not to old to know who he is either). While I was driving and singing to Harper, I thought how much I love discovering cover songs of an old favorite, especially when it becomes a new favorite or makes me feel young for a moment because I know more musicians under 40.
