Musings of the Week

During the latest blast of cold weather I found myself musing about a variety of things as I completed the 1000 piece Historic Newsstand puzzle by Ken Keeley . . . Two weeks from today one of the greatest sporting events, March Madness, will begin with the first round of games which means watching multiple games from noon until midnight and often losing three of my final four teams by Sunday night . . . Continued on my road to viewing the Academy Award nominees by watching Big Hero 6 (very enjoyable), Whiplash (Oscar Winner J.K. Simmons was great), Finding Vivian Maier (very interesting) and Virunga (Andre Bauma caring for the gorillas was a special part of the documentary) . . . Said goodbye to Patrick Jane (Simon Baker) in the great tv show The Mentalist after seven wonderful seasons and thankfully a happy ending . . . Have not discovered any new binge-worthy tv shows, but have watched several new shows, Better Call Saul, The Slap, Allegiance, Bosch, Battle Creek, that are very good and entertaining . . . Usually binge-watch House of Cards, but so far it has been a struggle to watch the first four episodes of Season 3 . . . Peyton Manning will be returning for his 18th season after signing a new contract . . . While I love adding newspapers and magazines to my Apple Newsstand, the Historic Newsstand puzzle reminded me again how electronics can never replace my love of actual newspapers, magazines and books . . . Spring fashion magazines have arrived and it is wonderful to spend time browsing the magazines with a great cup of coffee . . . I have decided to alternate watching the Lord of the Rings trilogy and the Harry Potter movies while walking on the treadmill and was surprised how much I enjoyed Harry Potter and that Lord of the Rings was better than I expected . . . Began the first book, The Templar Legacy, in the Cotton Malone series by Steve Berry and after spending the last month trying several books that did not catch my interest, I am excited about having a new author and character to discover . . . MLB Spring Training has started and the Washington Nationals won their first game on their road to the World Series ! ! !
