    1. After many years of kayaking without ever seeing a Great Blue Heron, I was very lucky this summer to have spent several mornings out on the lake with them. Amazingly he did not seem to mind company while he was fishing and, just like us, some days they are more successful than others. I could not believe he was catching fish after fish (which gave me a lot of practice) and I was thrilled that I managed to capture his complete technique. So glad I could share this.

  3. notice how they always turn the fish around,so that they swallow head first.They do that to stop the fins from opening up & getting caught in the throat.

    1. Thank you! This one was catching and flipping the fish so quickly that it’s a wonder he could keep track of what he was doing, but I did notice in the photos he had the fish positioned perfectly.
