After a month of gray skies, even the doves were begging for sunglasses when the rare blue sky made an appearance on New Year’s Day.

In order to embrace the bleak gray days that have gripped us this winter, maybe a renaming of the weather palette along the lines of Benjamin Moore’s paint color wheel would help increase the enthusiasm when heading out into a cold and gray morning with the camera. How wonderful to leave the house after the morning’s first cup of coffee and encounter a beautiful vista of Nantucket Gray.

Or walking along the blustery shore of the lake with the wind whipping the snow into a gorgeous frenzy of Smoked Truffle.

Then there are the moments while looking out onto the ice with the gray of the sky and lake dusted with swirling snowflakes that thoughts of Opening Day create a wonderful view of Sandlot Gray.

Then on the mornings with the wind whipping, the snow falling and your fingers going numb, you find yourself in a vision of Stormy Monday.

But then again, some days Gray has a charm all of its own.
