Time To Study Up On The 2018 World Cup

Now that the hockey and basketball seasons have wrapped up, it’s time to study up on the 2018 World Cup teams beginning their games in Russia on June 14th.  I become a soccer fan every four years for the World Cup and my limited knowledge of the teams and players results in me following a few favorite countries and players that I am familiar with.  I’ve downloaded the 2018 FIFA World Cup app and so far the main players and teams I will be following this year are Cristiano Ronaldo (Portugal), Neymar (Brazil) and Lionel Messi (Argentina), Harry Kane (England), Eden Hazard (Belgium) and Antoine Griezmann (France).  I’m hoping all this soccer studying will have me prepared when I attend my first soccer match between Manchester United and Liverpool FC later this summer.

Love hearing how you study-up for the World Cup, ACI. And this soccer field is one of the most beautiful I’ve ever seen. Have fun!

    1. Thank you!🙂 I was so happy to capture this scene over the weekend, for a moment I thought my World Cup photo would be of my Brazil jersey and hat from the first time I caught the World Cup fever.😁

    1. Thankfully the European soccer is coming to me since my dream of traveling to Europe is still on my wish list. The game is being held at the University of Michigan stadium that holds the U.S. record for soccer attendance with 109,000 people. I’m excited about the game and plan on wearing a Manchester United jersey.🙂

That’ll be a fun match to watch – I support Everton, the Merseyside rivals to Liverpool, but I’d support Liverpool if watching them play Man. Utd! I’d only support MU if they were playing in a European competition. Football (soccer!) tribalism is complicated…
My brother is visiting soon, timed for when England disappoint and get knocked out once again, and then I’ll be hoping Brazil do well! Just so long as the matches are full of attacking play, I don’t mind who wins. And as an eternal football optimist, maybe England will win it!

    1. I’m still in my studying phase, so it may take a few more days before I can refer to soccer as football.😁 I have to admit to being influenced by the television for my Manchester United support since they seem to always be playing on tv here early Saturday or Sunday. I also might have been influenced by the team colors and did you see all the red jerseys at the Capitals parade.😁 I also discovered in my soccer research that 11 MU players are in the World Cup and now I also need to follow Spain and Sweden. I hope you guys have a great time watching England in the World Cup and just another bit of information, MU extended their record this year as the only England club to send players on the England team to every World Cup.😁

OMG you are going to the Man Utd match!!! I am so jealous being a Man U fan first (Huddersfield Town 2nd). I think they’ve done a lot of pre-season friendlies in the US, not that there’s anything friendly about playing Liverpool. Some cracking players in your list.

    1. I’m excited about the Man Utd match and the World Cup! I love waking up to sports on the tv and the first match tomorrow begins at 7:00 am. I’ve already ordered my Man Utd T-shirt and hat for the match.😁
