Our first weekend of winter felt more like spring and guaranteed we will not have a white Christmas, but the warmer temperatures are appreciated during the wee hours of the morning when I spend quality time outdoors with Harper.

She’s made great progress in alerting me to animals roaming around in the dark with us and I’m always relieved when I finally see the white outline on the deer’s ears.  These skills have not transferred to her awareness of our surroundings at the park where she misses every duck we encounter.  That includes the one standing next to us,

those in the water staring at us and

the few flying straight in our direction.

I hope she spots Santa’s sleigh in time for me to duck.
