The Week In Seven Photos

Imagination and escape became a theme in my life this week as I was not in the mood for the current reality.

“If you want to escape this reality all you have to do is open a book and your imagination.” (unknown)

Photography and books are wonderful avenues of escape as the cares of the world slowly drift away with each click of the camera or rustle of a turning page.

“Books are a uniquely portable magic.” (Stephen King)

Quiet photography mornings, a comfy chair, jazz on the stereo and a favorite author is one of the best recipes I’ve found this summer.

“Rest, nature, books, music…such is my happiness.”  (Leo Tolstoy)

Harper quickly reminded me that my favorite summer recipe was lacking the most important ingredient, a dog by your side.

“Having a dog or cat will open your heart.  Reading a book will open your mind.  Having both – absolute heaven.” (Mark Rubinstein)

The power of a photo or sentence to immediately take you to another place filled with emotions, that even catches your imagination by surprise, is always a magical event.

“Reading is escape, and the opposite of escape; it’s a way to make contact with reality after a day of making things up, and it’s a way of making contact with someone else’s imagination after a day that’s all too real.  Reading is grist.  Reading is bliss.” (Nora Ephron)

Another special aspect that photography and reading share is that each individual’s interpretation of the scene or story will be inspired by their unique imagination and experiences.

“Books give a soul to the universe, wings to the mind, flight to the imagination and life to everything.” (Plato)

It appears that I cannot go through a week without my imaginative muse Baby Yoda making an appearance.

“I’ll read my books and I’ll drink coffee and I’ll listen to music and I’ll bolt the door.” (J.D. Salinger)

  1. Love the quotes and artistic photos – the third one reminiscent of Vincent Van Gogh. 😀

  2. I enjoyed this tribute to fantasy, ACI, with the quotes and creative photos. This is a particularly good time to interact in other worlds, and I thank you for taking us with you. I espec. like that first photo with the space ship.

  3. Love the photographs! I limited myself to tiny doses of the vitriol being spewed by the RNC this week, and I feel being abducted by aliens wouldn’t be so bad. Thank goodness for family, friends, dogs, books, movies, the big outdoors, and beer. I rarely have a beer on a “school” night, but that was a sorely tested rule this week!
I hope you have a great weekend, full of mental escapes, fine weather, and glasses of many good things!

    1. 🙂Thank you!🙂 My current books will have me escaping to Scotland and Ireland this weekend and after a week of shaking through thunderstorms, Harper will be thrilled with the wonderful weather tomorrow. Enjoy the weekend!🙂

  4. Some wise words there. I can’t wait to return to books. My other half is making me read some self-help thing before cracking on with my new books on walking adventures, it’s taking a while.

      1. Wild, by Cheryl Strayed is on my bookshelf. Not read it yet but its about a lady who walked 1100 miles along the west coast of America by herself.

      2. I own the book and movie and if I had a rating system for the favorite category walking adventures, yours would be rated higher.🙂
