I’ve Been Pondering…

The phrase “get off my lawn” that I hear quite often on my favorite sports show Pardon the Interruption. It always strikes me funny when they use the phrase concerning the sports attitudes and behavior of younger generations and I’m beginning to wonder if I’m enjoying the phrase too much at this age. I cheer on our local ornery swan when he tells the younger swans to “get off my lake”

and whenever Harper feels the need

to tell the turkeys

or geese to get off her lawn.

Even though I feel like I’m losing touch with the younger generations, I don’t think I’ve influenced Harper and she is most likely reacting to vibes from the swans

and her interpretation of gobble, gobble.

  1. Ha, love the shot of the three self-important tom turkeys and the one unimpressed hen!

    1. Thank you!😁 After a lifetime of not knowing anything about turkeys, they have been interesting to watch. I have no idea how they survive flying into trees, whether it’s Harper barking at them or the nightly departure, they look and sound like they are going to hit every branch.

  3. Many species, including humans, are territorial. Although perhaps “Get off my lawn” also refers to psychological space. Nice pictures of swans and turkeys and of course dear little Harper.

    1. Thank you!🙂 This is the first year we’ve had a few young swans challenging our old ornery swan to share his part of the lake and no matter where he’s at on the water as soon as he sees them he immediately zooms across the lake and chases them away. Harper respects the territorial rules, on our walks she’s never tried to chase away any birds.🐾🙂

  4. Wow, very beautiful photos! Our Standard Poodle was great at keeping the geese off the lawn when we lived on a big lake in Oakland County years ago. Dirty birds!

    1. Thank you and Harper is rather proud how fast she can clear a yard with her big bark, sometimes it even scares me!!🐾😁

      2. She decided against the little yappy dog trait and prefers to sound like a Rottweiler.🐾🐾😁

      3. That is good news! Across the street from my place, there is a man that owns what must be five or six little dogs and man do they yap up a storm! Gladly I can’t hear them in my house!

  5. Made my day. Tough little dog, but those are some big birds – hope she feels lucky… “Did I bark five times or six?”

    1. 😁Thank you!!😁 She never loses track of her barks in all the excitement and she likes The Good, The Bad and The Ugly main theme playing as she patrols the yard.🐾😁 There are more Tottenham rumors than goals between the coach and Kane, but let’s hope our teams win this weekend. Enjoy the weekend!😎

  6. Tony and Michael on PTI definitely know that at least some of their audience looks at them like they are indeed the old guys yelling about their lawn, but they also have been around sports forever and their opinions are certainly valued by people of all ages, even if we don’t always agree with their takes.😀

    1. I love Tony and Michael and have been faithfully watching their show for over twenty years. Always look forward to their thoughts about the hot sport topics of the day and I’ve especially enjoyed laughing over the last few years at Wilbon’s comments about millennials, along with every “get off my lawn” comment.😁
