Snow Day

It was actually a few snow hours and then a slush day and I’m now a believer in buying a snowman instead of making one (the chickadees agree). Did not take me long to have my first fall of the season, went out to fill the bird feeders and before I knew it I was on the ground in the slippery snow/slush. Sore and numb enough to take two days off from the exercise bike, but the back is feeling better today. It was a much softer landing in the yard than last year’s spectacular fall on black ice getting out of the truck and bouncing off the running board onto the parking lot, but never dropping Harper. I’ve always viewed myself as athletic and coordinated, but somehow I’ve been going airborne since childhood when I loved sledding on snow days on the biggest hill with the largest jump and then slipping and going airborne on the ice and breaking my collarbone. Each winter I’m determined that this will be the last time I’ll fall and, once again, that better be the last time I fall.

  2. I hesitated to “like” this after reading about your fall. Holy cats! So glad you weren’t seriously hurt. Cute picture of the snowman and bird, though.

    1. Thank you!πŸ™‚ We have a winter storm on the way tomorrow and I’m hoping they are wrong about the forecast again. Don’t know why we can’t have some pretty fluffy snow instead of snow, rain and wind.β˜ƒοΈ

  4. Oh, dear, be careful! Do you wear foot chains? Yak-Trax are a must in this house!

    1. I’m one of those people that always tells everyone to be careful and am constantly reminding myself and then one wrong step. I definitely plan on finally buying Yak-Trax because this has to stop.πŸ™‚

      1. Good news! I don’t venture out in icy conditions without mine. Cheap insurance, ha!

  5. My wife and I have each taken a winter tumble, although both happened many years ago. We came out of them without any injuries. Maybe that was good it happened while we were younger because now we have the ultimate respect for icy, slippery conditions. “Slip Slidin’ Away” back in the day may have been a benefit for us. I am sure the chickadees would prefer you upright in order to keep their meal schedule. Love that snowman and picture!

  8. Be warned, it gets much more important to avoid falling as you get older. There comes a time when you stop bouncing and just break.

    1. With all the issues with my back it’s very important I don’t fall and yet somehow it continues to happen. I’m looking into adding Yaktrax to my shoes and possibly trekking poles because I still love being outdoors on winter days.πŸ™‚

      1. I love Yaktrax and always wear them when it is icy. I also think highly of my walking poles and use them on rough ground and in icy conditions.

  9. Exercise bikes rock… i love mine! Please make sure that Harper doesn’t run into the pedal area as you are peddling. πŸ˜‰
