Serenade

Let us add being serenaded by a peacock for two hours in the middle of the night to that very long list of I never saw that coming. It may take many hours of listening to Hauser to erase the memory of the sound of the peacock roosting right outside my window.

Song of the Day: Serenade (Schubert) – Hauser

Coffee of the Day: Proving Grounds Coffee Mocha Mexicano (mocha, cinnamon and cayenne powder topped with whipped cream and chocolate drizzle)

  1. Thanks for the link to the peacock calls. I didn’t remember that their call was so loud and sharp. I bet there was very little sleep that night.

    1. Never expected the new backyard visitors and I don’t think he was happy his partner was roosting in a tree on the other side of the house.😁

  2. Ugh, I didn’t know they were nocturnal. Nothing worse than interrupted sleep, IMO. The morning coffee sounds like a good consolation prize. 🙂

    1. I was shocked with Harper’s noise issues that she wasn’t up all night too! I’ve been reading about peacocks and discovered they’re social animals, so that must be why they are trying to hang out with the turkeys and during the night they will make that noise if they spot something that shouldn’t be there. Now I want him to tell me what else was in my yard!!😁

  3. Oh dear, I remember that from when we lived in North Yorkshire and there was one used to scream from the neighbour’s garage roof.

    1. The first time I heard it I was outside at night with Harper and almost ran back in the house wondering what was in my trees.🐾😁

  5. Oh, man those things are loud and obnoxious! Long ago I was in a backswing on the first tee at my local golf course when one of those suckers honked right behind me! Spoiled the first swing of the round, for sure.

    1. I love watching them out in my yard, but after that night I had to apologize to the turkeys for complaining about some of their behavior. In the morning you can hear the turkey gobble from one set of trees and then the peacock scream.🙂

  6. Serenade is a very generous word! Went to a wedding on Monkey Island, peacocks everywhere (some were birds) and they weren’t quiet…
Maybe Harper could have a word?
    Enjoy your weekend!

    1. I’ve discovered during my research this week that peacocks are very social and after years of the turkeys taking one look at Harper and running or flying in the opposite direction, it’s been surprising to have the peacocks walk toward us when we’re out. Eventually Harper lets them know that is close enough and shockingly is not upset about all the noise. Enjoy your weekend!🙂

  7. Not the most mellifluous of bird calls!

    1. Definitely not and it’s very striking in the morning to have the songs of the little birds interrupted by a turkey gobble and the peacock.🙂

  8. I know how loud peacocks can be, and just listening to the link I thought with horror of having to listen to that all night. Maybe he was protesting about the addition of cayenne powder in the coffee 😉

    1. I was too hoarse from the cayenne powder to tell him to quiet down and luckily he’s only showed up one more time in the tree next to my window yelling at 4:00am.☕️😁
