It appears my funky and fun mood can continue on throughout the summer after good news from my doctor yesterday. After a round of great test results, in late June I was told I still have minimal residual disease, which means I have a few cancer cells floating around in my blood, and could have an issue with my bone marrow that might eventually lead to leukemia. Complete remission was not achieved and I could not celebrate with a margarita, but I was able to celebrate yesterday with my favorite Starbucks latte when I was told it was too early for a stem cell transplant discussion, treatment for my bone marrow wasn’t necessary because it’s in the very early stage and that I can begin the maintenance treatment for my lymphoma. More good news is that I’ve already had one of the maintenance drugs and did not have bad side effects and hopefully the other medication they’re trying will like me. What a relief for me and my family to not be facing the challenges of a stem cell transplant decision or procedure. I’m hoping all these funky, fun and hopeful vibes help with the new medicine to fight against it returning or turning into something new as long as possible.
