Isn’t That Special

It should probably be a rule to not create a blog post right after a doctor’s appointment and I wonder if anyone detected sarcasm in the title. While it’s very nice to be told you’re special, it’s absolutely not comforting to hear “you’re a special case” from your doctor. I’ve started my new treatment plan and after a week my blood count numbers are already being affected. So after a nice week out in the world, I’m going back into my bubble and hoping my body somehow adjusts to the new medicine and I don’t become ill or have to adjust the dose. Thankfully I always have many things to read or watch to keep me busy and with football starting soon I’ll be very happy in my bubble. Good news of the week is that the weather has been very special with fall-like temperatures and I will attempt to do another attitude adjustment after I post this and remember it was a special sunrise since I’ve missed so many this year.

  1. Here’s hoping you can soon emerge back into the world. I remember hiding for the first two years of covid while awaiting the vaccine. I remember my doctor telling me that I would likely die if I caught the virus before I was vaccinated, and the relief of finally being able to be out and about. I’m not sure that folks understand the what it is like to live with threat.

    1. Thank you!🙂 My mother has a form of leukemia and we’ve had to take special precautions for a long time and during COVID we lived in a bubble because of her and my husband’s health. Luckily I’ve been trained all these years how to limit the risk of illness and now I’ve learned a batch of new things to avoid during treatment. I try not to panic and think about another treatment option not working, but some moments I panic. Thankfully the attitude adjustment worked last night.🙂

  2. Oh, my! Hope it all goes well. Do keep us posted. And what I have learned over the years is that people’s bodies do not respond to treatment in the same way. Makes it a challenge, but it is true.

    1. Thank you!🙂 They stress that about cancer treatment and I’m really hoping my body adjusts to the new medication. It’s scary to keep eliminating treatment options.

  3. Not being special would be more comforting at the moment, I daresay, but I hope that your bubble life pays off and the new medicine settles down to working well for you.

    1. Thank you!🙂 I really thought it would be a few weeks before any of the side effects would appear, so I was very worried to hear the medication was already affecting my blood counts. Hopefully this is just an adjustment period and they won’t have to reduce or adjust the dose. I will be very happy watching the first college football game of the year that takes place tomorrow in Dublin.🙂

  4. Sorry to hear that the hoped for improvements proved illusive. 😦 Take comfort where you can find it, but not with sugar, lol, the cancer cells love it as much as we do. 💕

    1. Thank you!🙂 I’ve read a lot about sugar and wish the opposite was true because that would be a great cure for me! I’m hoping this is an adjustment phase to the medication and not another treatment option taken away. Luckily with this medication they can reduce the dose or take me off for recovery time, but I’m still hoping hiding out in my bubble will keep me protected and encourage my bone marrow to get its act together.🙂

  5. Ugh, not what you needed to hear and not what you would choose to have happen. Keep smiling as best you can and focus on those books, the films, the games on tv. And Harper! ❤️️🙏

    1. Thank you for your comment and prayers!!🙂 My attitude adjustment worked the other night and I continue to hope this is just an adjustment phase to the medication and not a sign another treatment option doesn’t work with my system. I know I don’t have any control over it and I’m doing my best not to let it rob me of smiling and enjoying life.🙂

    1. Thank you!🙂 So far I’ve been lucky that even though it’s affecting my blood counts I’m not feeling bad other than more tired than usual and hopefully by taking extra precautions I can avoid becoming ill.🙂

    1. Thank you!🙂 I’ve had to wear a mask all year and I’ve adjusted to that when I go out, but when my blood count numbers get this low it’s amazing how quickly doing some things doesn’t seem important anymore.🙂
