One might wonder what the Theme From Rocky and the holidays have to do with one another, but somehow the holiday music that is usually playing while the house and tree are decorated was replaced with Gonna Fly Now and Eye of the Tiger after going to the absolutely wonderful new movie, Creed, and watching the Spike TV Rocky marathon over the weekend. At first this combination may sound unlikely, but if you consider the fact that Sylvester Stallone’s Rocky is one of the great underdog stories, then it actually is a perfect fit for the holidays since the
underdog Rudolph with his nose so bright was never allowed to join in any reindeer games. The new movie, Creed, starring Michael B. Jordan (Adonis Johnson), Sylvester Stallone (Rocky Balboa), Tessa Thompson (Bianca) and Phylicia Rashad (Mary Anne Creed) is a perfect passing of the torch film to carry on the Rocky franchise that will mark its 40th anniversary next year. As a fan of Rocky and Sylvester Stallone, I was originally a little doubtful about another movie, but with the perfect casting of Michael B. Jordan and the marvelous job by Ryan Coogler, who directed and wrote the screenplay, all doubts were quickly washed away while watching a story that not only has the spirit and emotions of the early Rocky movies, but also a wonderful new storyline and characters to be loved by another generation. (http://www.latimes.com/entertainment/movies/la-et-mn-rocky-creed-production-ryan-coogler-20151123-story.html) The movie had great acting, fantastic chemistry between Jordan and Stallone, a love story, tremendous heart and soul, great nostalgic tributes to the franchise, classic transition to the new streets, music and attitudes of Philadelphia, superb fight scenes and the struggles of fighting for your life and inner ghosts. The
emotions of the holiday season are perfectly complimented by a movie that will have you laughing, cheering and hiding a few tears as you leave the theater demanding a rematch.
