Vaguely recall receiving actual letters in the mail during the ’80s.
I remember trying windsurfing in the ’80s, but never looking this cool. For my version, picture a small, waveless lake and the sail barely leaving the surface of the water.
I never attempted this in any decade and if I had it would have included a visit to the emergency room.
First decade to easily walk around and listen to your favorite rock band. The boombox was packed away next to the 8-track tapes.
Caddyshack (1980) or Gremlins (1984)? Definitely Bill Murray and Caddyshack!!
Star War: Episode V The Empire Strikes Back (1980) – Favorite film in the Star Wars franchise.
This brings back wonderful family Christmas memories, including Christmas shopping at Hudson’s and the annual Santa Bear.
Really enjoyed this! Windsurfing? Oh dear. I remember falling in and not having the strength to haul up the waterlogged sail and clamber back on the board. It’s exhausting even thinking about it…
Thumbs up for Gremlins, and for almost all Bill Murray movies. Empire is easily the best Star Wars movie, and AC/DC has a (questionable!) winning formula that has me smiling every time.
Thanks for the trip!

Thank you and I’m glad you enjoyed the nostalgic trip back to the ’80s. During the last ten years kitesurfing has become popular around here and there was a brief thought of giving it a try, but after the windsurfing experience the decision to just photograph the fun and not participate was rather easy. I’m still regretting not going to see AC/DC when they came to town with Axl Rose as the lead singer a few months ago, but I don’t think my hearing has recovered from seeing them the year before. I keep buying new albums from the old rock groups hoping for some of the old magic and the latest addition to the music library is the new blues album by The Rolling Stones.

Thank you for this nostalgic look back! Thoroughly enjoyed it. 🙂 I remember sending and receiving letters in the mail and how much fun that was, ESPECIALLY receiving! Haha! I never got around to getting serious with skate-boarding – tried going on one a few times and then said….nah. However, I did give a much bigger effort in wind-surfing on a few occasions. Yes, lots of hauling up of the sail and falling down….and doing that umpteen times. It WAS tiring! Still, there are also memories of making the sail and board move for quite a distance…..smiling because I was starting to get the hang of it…..then the wind died down, and I was back to falling down and pulling myself and sail back up again…..to try and get back to shore! 🙂 And YES – Episode V of Star Wars, my favie, too!!

Thank you and I’m glad you enjoyed the ’80s nostalgia. It sounds like you had more success at windsurfing, because I never had to worry about getting back to shore since I never made it very far and was still close enough to swim back. Thanks for sharing your ’80s memories!
