Numb – 50 Word Story

She stood braced against the piercing wind as each biting blast stung the tears streaming down her frozen cheeks. Engulfed in frigid desolation, she tried to remember the happy days spent on their bench beneath the now barren tree, but only bleak despair greeted her spiritless eyes and numb soul.

  1. If she can brace against a wind so piercing, hope is still nestled somewhere in there. Beautiful story, ACI, and lovely photos.

    1. Thank you very much. Resilience and hope are a formidable force in the human spirit. The title was inspired by my numb hands taking the photos and the words by the stark wintery day. I think I can finally feel my fingers and I hope you enjoy your weekend!

  2. You certainly nailed numb in 50 words – I could feel it. Loved the photographs as well, particularly the first one. Bleak can be beautiful…

    1. Thank you! I keep adjusting what I wear each time I go out with the camera, but I haven’t found the right combination to keep warm and prevent my fingers from going numb. I’m glad you enjoyed this and the bleak cold I was trying to convey reached you through the words and photo.
