Oh what a treat to fly away with this magnificent GBH, ACI. Really fantastic photo, makes me want to open my wings.

    1. Thank you!!πŸ™‚ For a change, we were actually on the same side of the lake. So far this year I have usually seen him fly away across the lake as I paddle toward his favorite location.πŸ™‚

    1. Thank you!!πŸ™‚ We are still at that early summer phase where he flies away whenever he sees me, but I hope by the end of summer his attitude improves a little.😁

        Have you seen any nests?

      2. I’ve seen two great blue herons on this lake the last few years, but I have never seen a nest.

Two swampy bogs in our town each have two nests, this year and last. The first in all the nearly 30 years I’ve lived here. Pretty cool to see.

      4. How wonderful to have them in your town and be able to watch them in their nests.πŸ™‚

I only wish I had a good zoom lens to get a decent shot of them as the nests are at the top of dead trees. They look pretty cool at dusk in silhouette.

    1. Thank you!!πŸ™‚ So far this year I have mostly seen him fly away at a distance and it was great to finally be close enough for a shot. Usually it takes most of the summer before he agrees to having company.πŸ™‚
