After hiding indoors due to the heatwaves and World Cup, I felt it was time to catch up on the neighborhood chatter.  This little one was still celebrating my favorite baseball player, Bryce Harper of the Washington Nationals, winning the MLB Home Run Derby.

Instead of watching exciting football matches, it was a week of watching disturbing world news and press conferences on MSNBC that left me begging my mother to cover my ears.

Thankfully the swans were in a silly mood and had no desire to chat.

An evening on the deck with one of my favorite authors, Daniel Silva, reading the latest Gabriel Allon novel where “he and the Russians will engage in a final epic showdown, with the fate of the postwar global order hanging in the balance.”  I may need more wine.

After watching Ready Player One directed by Steven Spielberg, I was ready to find someone from a younger generation to talk about the movie and the great 80’s nostalgia, but they’ve been too busy enjoying the outdoors instead of watching movies.

I was hoping for an afternoon on the lake to finish reading the great bestseller, The President Is Missing, by Bill Clinton and James Patterson, but the Great Blue Heron was refusing to let me in the paddle boat until we finished our discussion about the movie The Leisure Seeker and the wonderful Helen Mirren .

Anybody else seeing red this week?

  1. Alas, I have been seeing far too much red, and even had one sleepless night as I thought about our country. I especially liked how you told your week’s story and even found it comforting. Many thanks!

    1. Thank you!🙂 Nature, books and movies offer a wonderful escape, but it was another week where it was impossible to escape from the news and the historic changes taking place. Even Daniel Silva, who was on Morning Joe this week to promote his book, spent the interview discussing the week’s events instead of his new book.

      1. I’ve had the documentary The Fourth Estate recorded for awhile and after the news from last week I finally started watching it over the weekend. An excellent reminder of the importance of the press and what has transpired over the last year.

  2. Feathers have been ruffled, and there has been a lot of red this week…
Great photos and commentary, and clearly I need to catch up on a few movies and books. Just finished Burial Rites by Hannah Kent, and The Chessmen by Peter May, both good but a tad gloomy, and we seem to be getting quite enough gloom in the news reports. More wine and extended sunshine might be the answer, or a coping mechanism for the next little while.
    Have a great weekend!

    1. Thank you!🙂 I love the Gabriel Allon series by Daniel Silva and am thrilled it is being developed into a tv series. It took a little while watching Ready Player One for the Spielberg magic and 80s nostalgia to win me over, but he never fails. I hope I don’t develop one of those drinking games where when you read an unbelievable Twitter or hear our leadership described in very unflattering terms that you are required to take a drink. I may need to start buying wine by the case😁 Enjoy your weekend!🙂
