The Week In Seven Photos

After hiding indoors due to the heatwaves and World Cup, I felt it was time to catch up on the neighborhood chatter. Ā This little one was still celebrating my favorite baseball player, Bryce Harper of the Washington Nationals, winning the MLB Home Run Derby.

Instead of watching exciting football matches, it was a week of watching disturbing world news and press conferences on MSNBC that left me begging my mother to cover my ears.

Thankfully the swans were in a silly mood and had no desire to chat.

An evening on the deck with one of my favoriteĀ authors, Daniel Silva, reading the latest Gabriel Allon novel where “he and the Russians will engage in a final epic showdown, with the fate of the postwarĀ global order hanging in the balance.” Ā I may need more wine.

After watching Ready Player OneĀ directed by Steven Spielberg, I was ready to find someone from a younger generation to talk about the movie and the great 80’s nostalgia, but they’ve been too busy enjoying the outdoors instead of watching movies.

I was hoping for an afternoon on the lake to finish reading the great bestseller, The President Is Missing, by Bill Clinton and James Patterson, but the Great Blue Heron was refusing to let me in the paddle boat until we finished our discussion about the movie The Leisure Seeker and the wonderful Helen Mirren .

Anybody else seeing red this week?

    1. Thank you!šŸ™‚ The fawn was the highlight of the week and it was like watching a playful pup running around the yard. Almost made me want to add another dog to the family, but Gabby quickly discouraged that idea.😁

      1. Aw how lucky to see that. šŸ™‚
Yes, Gabby wants to be Top Dog – and Only Dog. šŸ™‚

Alas, I have been seeing far too much red, and even had one sleepless night as I thought about our country. I especially liked how you told your week’s story and even found it comforting. Many thanks!

    1. Thank you!šŸ™‚ Nature, books and movies offer a wonderful escape, but it was another week where it was impossible to escape from the news and the historic changes taking place. Even Daniel Silva, who was on Morning Joe this week to promote his book, spent the interview discussing the week’s events instead of his new book.

      1. So very discouraging. One night I even had a hard time sleeping.

      2. I’ve had the documentary The Fourth Estate recorded for awhile and after the news from last week I finally started watching it over the weekend. An excellent reminder of the importance of the press and what has transpired over the last year.

  3. Feathers have been ruffled, and there has been a lot of red this week…
Great photos and commentary, and clearly I need to catch up on a few movies and books. Just finished Burial Rites by Hannah Kent, and The Chessmen by Peter May, both good but a tad gloomy, and we seem to be getting quite enough gloom in the news reports. More wine and extended sunshine might be the answer, or a coping mechanism for the next little while.
    Have a great weekend!

    1. Thank you!šŸ™‚ I love the Gabriel Allon series by Daniel Silva and am thrilled it is being developed into a tv series. It took a little while watching Ready Player One for the Spielberg magic and 80s nostalgia to win me over, but he never fails. I hope I don’t develop one of those drinking games where when you read an unbelievable Twitter or hear our leadership described in very unflattering terms that you are required to take a drink. I may need to start buying wine by the case😁 Enjoy your weekend!šŸ™‚

    1. Thank you!šŸ™‚ I’m always on the lookout for feathers while kayaking and I was able to capture the shot as my niece kayaked around the feather.šŸ™‚

    1. Another beautiful place to escape!😁 I think I should find a place in the yard to bury my tv remote control and phone.😁

  7. All great pictures, but that last red one, Wow! And are those blackberries I spy with the strawbs?

    1. Thank you and the strawberries disappeared faster than the blackberries.šŸ™‚ I sometimes find it much easier to chase feathers around the lake than the actual birds.šŸ™‚
