It was our annual week of cruising Woodward Avenue during the evenings leading up to the Woodward Dream Cruise tomorrow. All of these photos were taken last weekend while kayaking where I was enjoying a morning of solitude in preparation for a week of fabulous classic cars and crowds of people. While the event is loved by many, there are those that live and commute along Woodward Avenue that would like to hide from the cruise that has stretched to a seven day event.
Some may wonder how an introvert, who intensely dislikes our summer weather at this point, can spend a week on hot asphalt surrounded by thousands and thousands and thousands and thousands of car enthusiasts, but I’ve loved classic cars for years and there is not a better place to cruise or watch them cruise than at the Woodward Dream Cruise. By Saturday many will be parked at their favorite place for the day and the traffic will be at a stand still.
There will be no place to hide tomorrow, except at a few favorite pubs along the route.
Any thoughts of perfect unobstructed seats are impossible, unless you plan on arriving very early in the morning,
and you can plan on a day of mingling very closely with thousands and thousands of car lovers.
The week and the cars race by in a blur and I hope this beautiful morning of solitude
was enough to have me ready for the million people tomorrow, when even three seemed like a crowd just last weekend.
