The Week In Seven Photos

It was our annual week of cruising Woodward Avenue during the evenings leading up to the Woodward Dream Cruise tomorrow.  All of these photos were taken last weekend while kayaking where I was enjoying a morning of solitude in preparation for a week of fabulous classic cars and crowds of people.  While the event is loved by many, there are those that live and commute along Woodward Avenue that would like to hide from the cruise that has stretched to a seven day event.

Some may wonder how an introvert, who intensely dislikes our summer weather at this point, can spend a week on hot asphalt surrounded by thousands and thousands and thousands and thousands of car enthusiasts, but I’ve loved classic cars for years and there is not a better place to cruise or watch them cruise than at the Woodward Dream Cruise.  By Saturday many will be parked at their favorite place for the day and the traffic will be at a stand still.

There will be no place to hide tomorrow, except at a few favorite pubs along the route.

Any thoughts of perfect unobstructed seats are impossible, unless you plan on arriving very early in the morning,

and you can plan on a day of mingling very closely with thousands and thousands of car lovers.

The week and the cars race by in a blur and I hope this beautiful morning of solitude

was enough to have me ready for the million people tomorrow, when even three seemed like a crowd just last weekend.

  2. What a delightful post, and hats off to you. As someone who dislikes crowds, I know just how you feel. For you, the pull of those cars must be very great. 😉

    1. Thank you!🙂 I really enjoy the evenings leading up to the cruise when you can still enjoy the restaurants and classic cars before it’s way too crowded. On Saturday many vehicles park on and off throughout the day with their car clubs, so there is a chance to see them parked and on the road cruising. Unfortunately, it’s not so easy to find a seat at my favorite pubs and restaurants that day.🙂

  3. Once the cruise is over, you’ll have the lake to fall back on! What an exciting event, crowds and heat aside. I think an evening seat in a bar above the main drag would work for me.
    Have a great weekend!

    1. My favorite pub along Woodward has the perfect view from above, but we can only enjoy that view during the week and by Saturday that area is absolutely too crowded for me. The weather has not been good the last two days, but we’re hoping it clears up tonight for a good day tomorrow. Many classic car enthusiasts refuse to take their cars out in the rain, but luckily that rule doesn’t apply for the Dream Cruise week.🙂 Enjoy your weekend!🙂

  5. A lovely series this week. Loved the Bottom’s Up shot (such good timing!) and the loosestrife reflection is stunning!
Have a good weekend, despite the crowds. Stay hydrated!

    1. Thank you very much!🙂 It was quite a contrast this week going from adorable ducks cruising by to thousands of beautiful cars. I’ve become obsessed with the dew point during this absolutely muggy summer and this week the dew point hit 70 along with the 90% humidity. After today, I might not leave my house for a month.😁

  6. The classic car thing sounds fascinating, maybe it’s an introvert thing, I love classic cars too, but would be longing to return to the solitude and peace of your beautiful photos. I do love that loosestrife reflection.

    1. Thank you!🙂 There is always a car show happening somewhere around here all summer, but I love the week of the Dream Cruise and the chance to see the cars actually cruising and not just parked.🙂
