The Week In Seven Photos

The excitement had been building for months after news broke that another one of my favorite guys, Bryce Harper, was coming to town for two games with his new team, the Philadelphia Phillies, to play the Detroit Tigers.

Quickly a few more rules were thrown out the window, like avoiding traffic jams and sitting in the rain, so I could see my favorite baseball player.  During a long trip to the stadium in storms, road construction and traffic, I had time to remember all of the hours wasted sitting in traffic during the years I worked in Detroit.  Also, once I arrived at the stadium and discovered Harper was only the designated hitter for the evening, I had plenty of time to not enjoy my bad hair evening because I didn’t have a Phillies hat and I’m not smart enough to get out of the rain when Harper was only going to be on the field briefly.

Many of us Harper fans wandering around in our Harper jerseys were disappointed at the news, but not as disappointed as when we arrived at the stadium the next day for the second game to discover that he was not in the lineup at all!!!

Back home little Harper’s ear perked up when she heard that her name was being changed from Harper to Bella!

I would like to say that I’m a great Phillies fan and was happy that they won both games, but I’m a Bryce Harper fan still adjusting to the transition to his new team from the Washington Nationals.

I might have had a slight attitude problem over the two days, especially

when I read that Harper was resting for only the second time this season in preparation for a big series against the Atlanta Braves.  I’m not usually one to bounce back quickly from a bad hair day and attitude problem, so Bella and I may be a little too busy this weekend to catch his games on the tv!

    1. There was a lot of muttering this week, but I can’t seem to hang on to an attitude problem as long these days, so we’ll probably watch at least one of the games this weekend since Harper is refusing to answer to Bella.😁

  2. It’s not always easy being a sports fan! I admire your commitment and have felt your disappointment with team decisions and withheld information about player selection (after tickets have been sold) in the past! I hope Harper/Bella (Hella? Barper? Maybe not) doesn’t get an identity crisis…

    1. Traffic jams and bad hair days are to be expected in Detroit this summer, but I thought with the best seats I’ve ever had for both games that I could expect at least one complete game by Harper!! Lately it feels like I’ve been referring to Harper as you little hooligan quite often and she may not notice another name change. So far the rest of the family won’t agree to the change and she refuses to respond to Bella. Even with my bad attitude, as a major sports fan I’m willing to be a little reasonable, so if Harper hits a few home runs this weekend after his long rest I’m willing to keep the name. If not, I’m hoping she might accept something a little closer like Hopper from Stranger Things as her new name.😁
