Flowers And Movies

While my mother and I may not spend many hours gardening together, we have enjoyed a lifetime of sharing books and movies.  One of those books was the 2000 New York Times best-selling memoir A Year By The Sea: Thoughts Of An Unfinished Woman written by Joan Anderson.  Over the years we’ve had many great conversations regarding the author’s books, with this one being read on more than one occasion, and I’m always reminded of my first major traveling adventure which included a wonderful visit to beautiful Cape Cod.  Last week when I was trying to complete my East Coast lobster roll day with watching a movie filmed on Cape Cod, I discovered unbelievably that somehow I missed the streaming release of the film Year By The Sea based on the book.  Well, it was as fantastic as the book and that lobster roll (oh, to live in a place with lemonade and lobster roll stands on neighborhood corners), the scenery was fabulous, we loved Karen Allen playing the role of Joan, and I may already have to rethink my opinion about Christmas in July because my mother and I acted like we had received a very special present (click on book/movie title for more information).

    1. Thank you!🙂 This one was very special and while I’ve enjoyed going to film festivals in the past, it has been fun trying to create food/wine/film festivals at home.🙂

  3. I loved that book and didn’t know they adapted it to film. I will have to look for it. Coincidentally, I’m friends with the couple who are her literary agents. Small world, eh? 😉

    1. 😁It definitely is a small world and I so enjoyed your comment and was as surprised about your friends as discovering I missed the release of this movie!😁 I’m making up for it by already watching the movie twice and reading the book again. It’s available for rent or purchase on Amazon.😁
