I’ve Been Pondering…

A little wave of nostalgia. Over the years I’ve adjusted to all the changes when attending concerts and sporting events (cost, no purses allowed, security, arguing with the computer that I’m not a bot, the loss of a cool ticket souvenir with tickets on your phone), but now discovering at some stadiums all points of sale require cashless payment methods my concert/sporting days may be over. I accepted I had no cash to put in a purse I could not carry to a concert after spending all that money on tickets, but I really do not want some official credit card souvenir that I was actually willing to pay $30 for a margarita.

  1. It is called progress….. though not sure I agree. You could also add the constant CCTV monitoring your every move – so much for an individual’s data protection rights

    1. So many things that were a part of society and my lifestyle prior to the COVID pandemic have not returned and I’ve been happy to discover they are no longer missed and I’m enjoying more simple life choices.🙂

    1. It’s been an adjustment, but very happy to be enjoying my music and sports at home and blasting my favorite tunes on the radio for Harper! Stay warm and safe this weekend!!🐾🙂

  2. Yeah. No more concerts for me. I am not paying a damn thing on my phone.

    1. Once I listed just some of the changes, I was trying to figure out why I didn’t give up concerts earlier.😁

    1. I had that list of things during the COVID pandemic that I could not wait to do again (concerts/sporting events were high on the list) and now after all the lifestyle changes I’m shocked at some of things I’m discovering I no longer miss.🙂

  4. $30!!!!! That’s enough to make someone start drinking!

    1. Always lose track of the cost when they serve the margarita in a cute plastic guitar container!😁

  5. Apparently, I’ve arrived at that get-off-my-lawn age where the rude & inconsiderate behavior of others (surprise! some of whom weren’t even drunk) necessitates I stay away from the crowds and instead, enjoying music courtesy of Pandora or my own (obsolete?!?) CDs or, even better, the sounds of nature and/or silence. I’ll sip my wine in the shade or toss back a margarita (hubby makes them so good!) or maybe a Moscow Mule. You’ve provided additional ammunition for why I prefer to forego the hassle although I do miss some of those younger days of carefree abandon where such inconveniences seemed to have mattered so little then!

    1. It’s been thirty five years of concerts and sporting events being a regular part of my life and now after all the changes over the years and new lifestyle choices during the COVID pandemic, I have no desire to make life that complicated again or be in a crowd. Can’t believe I forgot to mention the hours lost in traffic jams to and from the concert and in parking lots!! I’m going to have to work on my homemade margarita and I’ve never had a Moscow Mule. I had no idea cashless payment methods were the new thing, just yesterday I was at the grocery store and as soon as I started scanning items the machine told me it was a credit/debit machine only. Yep, much different reaction to everything than those younger days!🙂

  6. What a photograph! Like an oversized salt encrusted margarita glass… but at the prices you’ve mentioned, I’ll have to skip that, go for a small half of ale. Can’t remember the last time I saw a biggish name act live – maybe Oasis just before Liam hit Noel for the last time?! Yikes, that must be more than ten years ago…
Kids today with their souvenir screenshots of virtual ticket stubs – where’s the joy in that? Change isn’t always progress. I think I’m beginning to settle into this almost grumpy early middle age thing.
Have a great weekend! (Still deciding if avoiding the Everton score early tomorrow morning then catching up on replay later is a wise move…)

    1. Thank you!🙂 I’m jumping into that wave of nostalgia for a quick moment to remember my last hockey game with Ovechkin, baseball game with Bryce Harper, Liverpool/Man United International Champions Cup match, and Jimmy Buffett in concert, before I remember all the reasons I won’t be going to watch Kane in the 2026 World Cup!!😱 I’m not ready to go off the grid, but I’m certainly not keeping up with all the so called progress. Don’t know if I should mention this, but you might have settled into almost grumpy just a tad before middle age.😁 I think I should watch Everton this weekend and you can update me on the Spurs. Enjoy the weekend!😁

      1. Reading all the other comments on this post, I’m happy (sort of!) to see grumpy early middle age is what all the cool kids are trying these days! (Oh, and I had to look up how to make a margarita to see if salt is an ingredient – don’t think I’ve ever had one, so that’s going on the list!)

      2. OMG, never thought I would be part of the cool kids!!😁 Salt is a part of the classic margarita, but it’s probably not a surprise to hear I prefer the frozen strawberry margarita with extra sugar around the rim.😁
