I’ve Been Pondering…

The art of wearing many hats. My mother took a big spill last week that she is slowly recovering from and I’ve had to adjust quickly to wearing many hats and none suit me as well as my bucket hats. The chef’s hat required my first attempt at making poached eggs and while I was told they turned out good there has not been another request for breakfast, but she seems very happy when I order food. My nurse’s cap is faring better than my physical therapist cap, as I’m very afraid some days to ask her if she’s ready for more ice and another small walk. Thankfully I’ve been able to share the personal shopper hat with my niece, because somewhere along the way in life I’ve completely lost the art of shopping and am very content to just follow her around while enjoying my Starbucks. Surprisingly, my sports hat which my mother usually enjoys is at risk of being run over by her walker if I make her watch one more stage of the Tour de France. Hoodies have become the favorite hat of the week as she could hide in hers from my Jon Hamm movie marathon and I could hide in mine when she decided to share another one of her famous and awful knock knock jokes. In all seriousness, it’s been a very stressful time, but there’s been improvement every day, Harper thinks it’s fabulous to stay at grandma’s house and we always find something to enjoy and laugh about, even if it’s just the knock knock jokes.

  1. Stressful times… hope your mother heals quickly and is back to herself soon. Knock-knock jokrd may be annoying, but they are a good sign of recovery! 😉

    1. Thank you and I worry about this added exhaustion and pain on top of her other health issues. Today was a little bit better and it’s always a painful good sign when she can torture us with her jokes.🙂

  2. Wishing your mother a swift recovery as you try on the various hats! Even though it’s all part of the journey, it’s not always easy to see parents age. Mrs. PC’s wonderful father passed away earlier this month, and we’ve had the bittersweet experience of recalling happier times…
Maybe once your mother is back on her feet, you’ll all be shopping for Lycra cycling gear and fast bicycles (and a streamlined basket to carry Harper!)

    1. Thank you and one more week of the Tour de France and I’ll never be able to even mention the word bicycle to her!!🙂 I was very happy to go from the scary stress of last week to laughing at midnight knock knock jokes one night this week and thankfully today was a little better than yesterday. You and Mrs. PC are in my thoughts and I hope remembering those happier times and memories brings comfort during this difficult time. Take care!!

I wore too many hats at work and now wear none. Don’t burn yourself out.

    1. Thank you and I can guarantee you that the chef hat will never replace my bucket hat!! I was absolutely exhausted the first week from the stress and seeing her in so much pain, but am getting my energy back now that she’s improving a little each day.🙂
