We Might Have A Noise Phobia Solution For Harper

I want to thank everyone for the suggestions after last week’s blog about our sleepless nights due to Harper’s anxiety issues over noises. I was hoping leaving the tv and music on would help, but when that failed I researched the Color Noise Sound Machine suggestion and immediately ordered one. I had no idea prior to the research that pink, white and brown noise could help dog anxiety and once I heard the sounds I told Harper let’s hope a soft fan sound helps because those sounds will give me anxiety. There’s actually 25 sounds and god help us if I select the rain or train sounds by mistake. The first night Harper was awake by 2:30am, but the shaking was greatly reduced. I can’t tell you how thrilled I was that she made it to 5:00am the next night with no shaking. She’s still acting panicky when she wakes up, but I’m hoping that will also begin to improve. I’ve tried to tell her she’s the only one creeping around the house at night, but after listening to all the nighttime noises I’m really glad we have a new color noise sound machine. Luckily a good portion of the exhaustion lifted prior to the College Football Playoff National Championship and the great win by the Michigan Wolverines against the Washington Huskies.

    1. It’s horrible when she’s shaking and I’m thrilled it helped with that! I have an appointment with her vet just to make sure everything is ok with her health and if he has any ideas.🐾🙂

  2. Win, win! Both for the Wolverines and for your family. Has Harper always been like this? Or has it recently gotten worse? If so, I wonder what the reason could be. Anyway, glad there was a solution.

    1. Thank you!🐾🙂 She’s always had a sensitivity to noise and shakes through thunderstorms and fireworks, but this is the first time she has done this and it began after the New Year’s Eve fireworks.🐾🙂

    1. Thank god Harper is improving or I would have slept through the whole game. Still trying to understand why she’s happily playing right now in the same room that she will decide at 3:00am she needs to escape from.🐾🙂

    1. Thank you!🐾🙂 Even though she’s always been sensitive to loud noises like thunderstorms and fireworks this has never happened before. It started after the New Year’s Eve fireworks and unfortunately she won’t tell me the reason behind this reaction.🐾🙂

      1. I see, that’s a bummer for her. I have heard of tranquilisers for dogs… Maybe that will help Harper?
