The Week In Seven Photos

After a week of winter storms and dangerously cold temperatures,

it’s hard to imagine we just had waves on the lake last Friday.

The swans are also trying to figure out how things could change so drastically after the mild beginning to winter

while the little birds have adapted rapidly to the extra birdseed during these cold days.

Harper and my niece have let me know daily it’s too cold for walks

but I haven’t complained too much (they wouldn’t agree) as my back is happy for the rest after clearing the heavy snow.

The roads have been horrible in the morning all week and I’ve added extra time to my morning commute to the coffee shop

since I’ve discovered this year that I refuse to turn left across two lanes of traffic on bad roads in crazy traffic. After decades of complaining about crazy rush hour traffic, I can tell you that some days the traffic jams in school zones and around coffee house parking lots can be as scary as rush hour on highways. Harper keeps looking at me while I’m driving wondering if I know where we’re going and then looking rather embarrassed when I have to open my door to order and get my coffee because my window is frozen shut.

  1. This post beautifully captures the rigors of winter. The picture of the swan is especially striking. Hope you have figured out a good route to get your coffee.

  2. The cold has even reached the Lowcountry. We had ice the other morning 😳. Worse still is the cold blast is coming again, and colder. Based on the weather just south in Florida my only escape could be another move…Havana??

    1. Please don’t pack your bags for Havana, I would miss your fabulous photography area and it’s going to warm up by midweek – hang in there!!😁

  3. I too had an issue a couple of days ago when I went to place my coffee order from the relative comfort of my car…only to find the window wasn’t comfortable being opened. Fortunately, I was still a couple of cars away from it being my turn so eventually the window decided to cooperate after all.πŸ˜β˜•β„ Our geese and ducks have also found their ponds frozen over at this time, so a winter “vacation” is in order for them.πŸ¦†πŸ’Ό

    1. Thankfully I was finally able to roll down my window yesterday for my coffee order!!β˜•οΈπŸ˜ Our swans stay year round, but I’ve never seen them react to a storm like this week. Luckily there are some exciting football games this weekend to help me forget it’s still going to be freezing out!!πŸˆπŸ™‚

      1. I just hope, no matter where our ducks and geese are hanging out this weekend, they’ve got good television reception for the NFL playoffs.πŸˆπŸ™‚

  4. Frozen windows and windshield wipers too 😏. Harper might have the right idea. Sweet shot of her!

  5. Winter at last! But, yeah, the frozen window thing is annoying – couldn’t pay for parking at the hockey the other day without opening the door!
Hope your back is better and the roads around the coffee shops improve! I don’t think there’s any big snow in the near forecast – but very cold! Beer/coffee/wine and books this weekend!

    1. Thank you!πŸ™‚ Looking forward to a weekend without new snow and my back feeling much better. Love my weekend trips to the coffee shops without all the crazy drivers and a window that works now! I read an article about Quebec hockey in the New York Times a few weeks ago and that’s great you have a local team to go watch. Any chance you watched Auston Matthews hat trick in the Maple Leafs win over Calgary last night?! Enjoy your fabulous weekend plans!!πŸ™‚

A cup run to look forward to? Checks standings. Oh.

  6. Oh the fun of a Michigan winter! You can break your door handle too by trying to pull a frozen shut door open. I don’t miss driving in that stuff…

    1. The roads have certainly been a mess in the morning this week and I’m looking forward to clear roads tomorrow morning after our first night this week without snow. I have no idea what it’s going to be like when we get warmer temps and rain later next week. Enjoy the sunshine and bike rides!😎

      1. I’m guessing that flooding could be an issue. My daughter, her husband and their son left Waterford for Florida today, the journey has been difficult. The weather has gone insane…
