Thankful Thursday

Watching classic cars cruising Woodward Avenue in preparation for the 29th Woodward Dream Cruise this Saturday, I was thankful for the generations prior to mine that are keeping the classic car culture alive and also feeling very thankful lately for growing up as a member of Generation X (born between 1965-1980). By the time I obtained my driver’s license in the early ā€˜80s, cars had lost much of their character and pizazz, as proof by the station wagon I first drove, but I wouldn’t change my generation with any other. I’m also very thankful we eventually made it home after a great evening of cruising and lobster rolls, since it appears cars with character and pizazz can also be very temperamental.

  1. Didn’t know Generation X actually meant that, but I definitely fit into that category and also prefer older cars from eras gone by, even though I don’t drive or own a car, only small model ones.

    1. While I still get very excited about a fabulous radio/sound system in my car, I don’t find any of the new cars as cool as the old classics.šŸ™‚

  2. What a car! (The temperament is a bonus, goes with the colour…)

    1. Thank you and after last night’s stalling issues, I don’t think the Baby Boomer driver is speaking to his car yet!😁

  3. I’m a Boomer myself and had an early appreciation for the ’67 Impala and ’67 Galaxie 500. There was recently an ‘oldies’ car show nearby and I enjoyed seeing some of these magnificent cars out on the roads that weekend.

    Nice photo!

  4. That’s a beautiful and Real car! I’m a Boomer that doesn’t believe in electric cars and never will, they are just a fad.

    1. Thank you and while I’ve had moments where I wished I had been a writer in Paris during the ā€œLost Generationā€ of the ā€˜20s and ā€˜30s, there are so many things I loved about growing up when I did and I just can’t bare the thought of missing out on all my favorite movies, books, sports and music…I would have never heard AC/DC!!😁

  6. We had a Pontiac convertible like this in the mid-60s. My father’s mid-life crisis car! 🤣

  8. A fellow Gen Xer here. My first car was very odd, a Citroen Visa which had this sort of coke can sticking out from the steering column with the controls on. My best mate at school called it a space shuttle. Nothing so classy as these American classics

    1. What a great generation!!šŸ™‚ I love the classic cars and when I get to spend a week surrounded by such cool cars on the road!! Nowadays, the majority of the time I’m driving all the cars look alike. Looked your first car up and much cooler than my station wagon!!😁
