During these dreary, rainy January days I have been searching for light and a photo to go with the song Blinded by the Light by Manfred Mann’s Earth Band.  The song reached number one back in February 1977 and while listening to this song while growing up, I had no idea the song was written and recorded by Bruce Springsteen.  Springsteen’s music would fall into that category for me of what music you would want to have with you if you were stranded on a mountain.  I chose being stranded on a mountain over an island after recently watching the wonderful Idris Elba and Kate Winslet in The Mountain Between Us.  They listened to classical music while stranded and, even though I do listen to the Manfred Mann’s Earth Band version when it’s on the radio, I have to admit that I hope I am never stranded with only either version of this song.

  1. Blinded by the Light was and still is one of my all time favorite songs. Always gets cranked up. I knew it was written by Springsteen but I don’t care for his version much. Either way, great song. Another one of my favorites that made others’ songs famous Joe Cocker. Eric Clapton is also one of the greatest cover artists- some of his most famous songs were recorded by others. So much history in Classic Rock music. Unfortunately, not many care about it anymore. Lets keep it alive 👊🏻

    1. Thanks for sharing the classic rock history!🙂 I was surprised to learn that Manfred Mann’s Earth Band version was Springsteen’s only number one song and I’ve never been able to listen his version. They keep changing the classic rock formats on our local radio stations and by the end of last year, R&B/Hip-Hop passed rock music to become the most popular genre of music. Pretty soon all of my favorite songs will be found on the oldies station.😁

      1. I didn’t know Hip Hop has surpassed Rock but I’m not surprised. I love to listen to Classic Rock but not on the radio anymore – I hate listening to young DJs that think they know music – I was listening in one day and one of the DJs didn’t know who sang one of my favorite songs – I turned it off. I will pay for satellite if I’m going to be traveling or I’ll jump on iTunes and grab a bunch of favorites. Radio is dead in my humble opinion. Thanks for staying loyal to “real” artists 😂 Rock on 👊🏻

  2. A great playlist is a survival skill! But not with this track, even if Springsteen did write it (and I love Springsteen, particularly Nebraska era – the miserable stuff!)
Looking forward to seeing the movie, two great actors. Have you seen Luther with Idris Elba? Wonderful role for him, and makes me miss London just a bit…

    1. This track has never made it onto a playlist, but I still enjoy when I hear it on the radio.🙂 I wish I had ignored some of the reviews and seen this movie at the theater (wonderful scenery), what was I thinking with Kate Winslet and Idris Elba in the film. Did I mention the fabulous Idris Elba was in the film??😁 I’ve loved watching him since his role in The Wire and have watched Luther several times.🙂

  3. Pity the youtube clip wouldn’t play as I love this song, and MMEB, but never mind, it’s in my head now. How on earth did RnB/Hiphop become so popular? I need decent music in my life, not stuff that all sounds the same (now I sound like my parents did back in the 80’s).

    1. I thought that if I added a link in addition to including the video that one of them would work. I’m glad the tune is at least playing in your head.🙂 Whenever I watch the music awards, I am amazed at the number of musicians I am unfamiliar with and I actually listen to more of the music that my parents listened to than what is popular now.🙂
