I’ve lost track of how much sleep I’ve lost lately thanks to Harper, but at least she’s recovering with many power naps. Harper has always been an anxious dog and we’ve always adapted to new issues while never understanding old issues like how can you be afraid of a tiny fly and chase thirty turkeys into the trees after sneaking out the front door. The latest anxious trend was set off by a sequence of events including a power outage and New Year’s Eve fireworks in the neighborhood. I have to admit I’ve barely recovered from the power outage after having the windows of the house lit up at 3:00 am when a repair person was wandering through the yard with a flashlight looking for the problem. I should be relieved they were on the job so quickly, but I was actually discovering that I was one of those people in horror movies that does everything wrong when someone is lurking in the dark. Lucky I didn’t fall down the stairs tripping over Harper when I discovered my little lantern barely lit up my hand. Harper has always had an issue with clicking noises, especially when everything beeps/clicks when the power goes out, and now she has decided she cannot sleep at night when the furnace clicks on and off. She’s shaking in bed as bad as when we have thunderstorms and fireworks, but boy you should see how quickly that stops and is replaced with excitement when she is in the living room playing at 3:00 am. We’re currently working on solutions or should I say I’m currently working on a solution as she’s passed out next to me on the couch.
