It’s been six months since the first confirmed COVID-19 cases in Michigan and after seeking remote places, some days the world sounds very loud when I leave the parks for a walk down Main Street or wake to the malfunctioning fire alarm blaring and the loudest howl you’ve ever heard.

The park ambassador quietly watches and listens all hours of the day. He wonders about the herons strong introvert spirit and the constant sandhill squawking. Always knows when Miss Cardinal is irritated and a new addition is roaming the land as gathering morsels of information has replaced days spent soaring.

One of those weeks just hanging around and wandering the paths under cool blue skies On an empty path there was the sudden desire to joyfully scream “PUMPKIN SPICE LATTE” and hear it echo across the lake as I enjoyed a delicious sip. Obviously this crabby fella isn’t a fan.

There’s clearly a disturbance in the atmosphere casting a web of fear over our home as Harper and I are afraid of the yard with bats circling and chirping above our heads in the evening and fifty migrating grackles swarming throughout the day. At least someone feels right at home.

A peaceful scene should inspire enlightening thoughts and all I’ve got is that I no longer enjoy popping M&Ms in my mouth throughout the day and instead of wrestling the kayak into the water I would prefer leaving it floating on the lake by the dock and jumping in gracefully.

Back in the ’90s Seinfeld was my favorite show and who knew decades later life would become a permanent episode of “Bizarro World.” At dawn the day arrives appearing normal, but then the hours roll along and with a subtle shift on the surface the “bizarro” creeps into the scene.

A Light For Lost Souls – 50 Word Story

The grandmothers and mothers had always found a way for the light to guide the lost souls home. The candles lit weekly at church with hope of a lost soul reaching salvation and lights left on throughout the house as darkness descended beckoning those without hope and nowhere to go.
